Gift purchase survey template

Find out how the gift went, from the person who sent it

Four questions for a few days after a gift is delivered: how the recipient liked it, how the wrapping, the message, the price and the timing were handled, whether the buyer would gift through you again and what would make it better. Send it by email or share the link, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this gift purchase survey tells you

A gift purchase survey asks the buyer, who paid but never saw the parcel, how the gift landed. This template asks four questions in about a minute: a face scale for how the recipient liked it, a grid that rates the wrapping, the gift message, leaving the price off and arriving on the right day, a yes or no on gifting through you again, and an open question.

It is written for an email to the buyer a few days after the gift is delivered, when they have heard back from the recipient. Usertick sends it to a contact list of gift buyers now or on a date up to 30 days ahead, and the face scale can be answered inside the email. The link also fits the delivery email your store sends to gift buyers.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as shipping and delivery or product quality, with a type and an urgency, so a gift that arrived late or with the price inside gets a quick apology. Results shows the faces from unhappy to happy, a heat map for the four gift details and the share who would send a gift again.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 ยท Emoji

How did the recipient like the gift?

Why ask it
The buyer's real question is whether the gift was a hit, and a face scale is the quickest way to ask it. It comes first so it can be answered inside the email.
What you learn
Results shows the faces from unhappy to happy, each with its share, compared with the period before. Select the unhappy faces to see which gift details those buyers rated low.
Make it yours
Keep the ends as Not at all and Loved it, so buyers answer about the recipient's reaction rather than their own order.
Question 2 of 4 ยท Matrix ยท Optional

How would you rate the following?

Why ask it
Gifting has details an ordinary order doesn't: the wrapping, the message, a packing slip without the price and a date that matters. Each one can spoil the moment, so each gets its own row.
What you learn
A heat map shows how each row was rated, with row averages, so you can see at a glance whether timing or the gift message needs work.
Make it yours
Add a row for anything else you offer gift buyers, such as a gift receipt or a choice of card, and drop rows for services you don't offer.
Question 3 of 4 ยท Yes / No

Would you send a gift through us again?

Why ask it
Whether a buyer would gift through you again is the outcome that matters for the next holiday, and a single yes or no makes it easy to track.
What you learn
Results shows the share that said yes against the period before. Select No to read what those buyers wrote and which details they rated poorly.
Make it yours
Compare the share before and after the holiday season, when gift orders and delivery pressure both peak.
Question 4 of 4 ยท Text ยท Optional

How could we make gifting better?

Why ask it
Buyers often know what would have made the gift better: a printed card instead of a message on the packing slip, a delivery date picker, a choice of wrapping. One open question collects those ideas.
What you learn
Each answer appears with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, so ideas about wrapping and complaints about timing separate on their own.
Make it yours
Keep it optional, so a buyer whose gift was a hit can finish in three taps.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Send it after the gift is opened

A few days after delivery gives the recipient time to open the gift and thank the buyer. Build the list from your store's gift orders, since Usertick doesn't send on a delivery event.

  2. 02

    Ask the buyer only

Send the survey to the person who paid. The recipient may not know your store and never agreed to hear from it.

  3. 03

    Check timing before holidays

Watch the Arriving on the right day row in the weeks before a holiday, and read the comments of buyers who rated it Poor or Fair.

  4. 04

    Apologize the same day

When a buyer reports the price inside the box or a missing message, give the response an owner in the inbox and reply before the buyer has to write in.
