Usertick
Size and fit survey template

Learn how your sizes really fit, before the next return arrives

Four questions for a week after delivery: how the item fits, which size was ordered, whether the customer is keeping it and what other shoppers should know. Send it by email or share the link, and Usertick reads every written fit note for you.

What this size and fit survey tells you

A size and fit survey asks customers how clothing or shoes fit once they have tried them on at home. This template keeps it to four questions and under a minute: runs small, true to size or runs large, the size they ordered, whether they are keeping it, and an open question for details such as sleeve length or a tight waist.

It is written for an email a week after delivery, when the item has been tried on and the return window is still open. Usertick sends it to a contact list now or on a date up to 30 days ahead, and the fit question can be answered inside the email. The link also fits your own post-delivery email, or a QR code printed on the packing slip.

Every written fit note is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as product quality or returns and refunds, with a type and an urgency. Results shows the fit split, the sizes ordered and the share keeping the item, and selecting Runs small filters the page to those customers and the sizes they chose.

Send it from Usertick to a contact list, with the first question inside the email. A tap on an answer opens the rest of the survey with that answer already kept. Usertick sends 50 emails a month on the free plan, or connect your own sender.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Multiple choice

How does it fit?

Why ask it
Three options cover every fit answer, and one tap is easy to give inside the email. It is the answer your size chart depends on.
What you learn
A donut shows the share and count of Runs small, True to size and Runs large, and over time as stacked shares, so a fit change in a new production run shows within a period.
Make it yours
Use one survey per product or product line, or add a question that names the item, since one survey across the whole store mixes every fit together.
Question 2 of 4 · Dropdown · Optional

Which size did you order?

Why ask it
A fit answer means more next to the size. Runs small from customers who ordered XS and from customers who ordered XL can point at different problems in the pattern.
What you learn
A donut shows the share of each size ordered. Select M to see the fit split for that size alone, then compare it with S and L.
Make it yours
Replace the letter sizes with your own, such as waist sizes for jeans or shoe sizes, in the order customers see on the product page.
Question 3 of 4 · Yes / No

Are you keeping it?

Why ask it
Whether the item stays tells you what the fit answer costs. A customer who says Runs small and keeps it is a different case from one who sends it back.
What you learn
Results shows the share that said yes against the period before. Select No to see which sizes and fit answers lead to returns.
Make it yours
On every plan, a workflow can post each No to your customer service channel in Slack or Microsoft Teams, so someone can offer an exchange before the refund.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

Is there anything about the fit other shoppers should know?

Why ask it
Customers describe fit in detail when asked: short in the sleeves, tight across the shoulders, half a size big in the toe. Those notes tell you which line of the size chart to rewrite.
What you learn
Each answer appears with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, so repeated notes about one part of a garment stand out.
Make it yours
Usertick doesn't show answers to other shoppers, so copy the useful notes into the product page yourself or send them to Google Sheets with a workflow.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Ask before the return window closes

A week after delivery gives customers time to try the item on while an exchange is still possible. Schedule the send from a list of delivered clothing and shoe orders.

  2. 02

    Read fit size by size

Choose each size in question 2 in turn. A product that runs small only in the largest sizes needs a different fix from one that runs small throughout.

  3. 03

    Change the chart, then check

When you update a size chart or a fit note, compare the fit split with the period before to see whether new buyers choose the right size.

  4. 04

    Keep categories apart

Tops, jeans and shoes fit in different ways. Duplicate the survey for each category so the fit answers don't blur together.
