Usertick
In-app purchase survey template

Check that every purchase lands, and feels worth the money

Three quick questions after a user's first purchase: how worth it the purchase felt, whether it unlocked right away and how easy buying was. Every answer is a tap, and Usertick reads any written answer you add.

What this in-app purchase survey tells you

An in-app purchase survey asks buyers about a purchase they just made in your app, while the money spent is fresh. This template takes about 20 seconds: a 1 to 10 score for how worth it the purchase felt, a yes or no on whether it unlocked right away, and an effort score for the purchase itself.

It is written for the moment after a user's first purchase. In a web app, your code fires a custom event when the purchase completes and the survey opens (from Starter, or on 1 survey on Free). Inside a phone app, have the app open the survey's link after the first purchase, with the item added to the link as a tag. It also goes by email to a list of buyers, with a button that opens the survey.

Results shows the average on the 1 to 10 scale with a column per step, the share whose purchase unlocked right away, and the average effort with the share who found it easy, each against the period before. Select No on the unlock question to filter the whole page and see how those buyers scored value and effort. Add an open question, and Usertick reads each answer and files it under a category such as billing or pricing and plans.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Big scale

How worth it was your purchase?

Why ask it
Value is what decides a second purchase, and a 1 to 10 scale gives enough steps to see a shift after a price change or a new pack.
What you learn
Results shows the average and a column for each step from 1 to 10, against the period before. Columns piling up at the low end point to items that don't deliver what their description promised.
Make it yours
If you sell several items, run one copy of the survey per item or name the item in the label, so each score belongs to one thing.
Question 2 of 3 · Yes / No

Did it unlock right away?

Why ask it
A purchase that doesn't unlock right away becomes a support ticket or a refund request, and a yes or no catches it even when your payment records show success.
What you learn
Results shows the share that said yes, against the period before. A drop after a release is the first sign the unlock step broke.
Make it yours
Set a workflow (every plan) that posts every No to Slack or Microsoft Teams, so support can restore the purchase before the user writes in.
Question 3 of 3 · Customer effort

How easy was the purchase?

Why ask it
The purchase flow itself can lose buyers, from a price that wasn't clear to an extra confirmation step, and an effort scale measures that friction apart from the value of the item.
What you learn
Results shows the average on the 1 to 7 scale and the share who found it easy, with a hard-to-easy bar. Compare it with the period before when you change the purchase screen.
Make it yours
Move this question to first place when you send the survey by email, so buyers can answer it inside the message.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

How easy was the purchase?

The average on its own scale and the share who found it easy, against the period before and by device.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Ask after the first purchase

The first purchase decides whether a user buys again, so ask then. Later purchases can get a shorter survey or none at all.

  2. 02

    Watch the unlock answer daily

A share of No that rises after a release points to a broken unlock. An alert (every plan) tells your team when that number crosses a line over a day.

  3. 03

    Compare value by item

Run one copy of the survey per item or bundle, since Results doesn't split answers by link tag, and compare the value scores side by side.

  4. 04

Ask why after a low score

Add an optional text question after the value score, with skip logic sending scores of 5 and up past it, and Usertick reads each answer for you.

Frequently asked questions

Right after the first purchase, while the user can still see what it unlocked. A survey after every purchase is too often for most apps.

Usertick runs on websites and in web apps, and doesn't run inside a phone app. Have the app open the survey's link after the purchase, and add the item to the link as a tag so each answer keeps it for workflows and Google Sheets.

Treat each No as a support case. Give it an owner in the inbox, check the purchase in your payment records and restore it, then look for the release or device the failures share.

Most answers in the top columns, holding steady or rising from one period to the next. Compare your own periods and items rather than an outside number.

Yes, on every plan. A workflow posts responses to Slack or Microsoft Teams or adds each one to a Google Sheet, and from Starter the same workflow can send each response to Amplitude, Mixpanel or Segment too.

Yes. Every template comes with every plan, the free plan included, and the free plan covers 150 responses a month across your surveys.

Yes. The template becomes your own survey, so reword any question, add or remove questions, and change the options and the logic. The gallery stays as it is.

Yes, from Starter. The template is written in US English. Add languages by hand or with AI translation, and each person sees the survey in their browser's language.
