Mood and sentiment survey questions

Sentiment questions that show how users feel about your product

Ask users how they feel right now, after a session or after an update, in one tap. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.

What customer sentiment survey questions tell you

Customer sentiment survey questions ask users how they feel about your product: right now, after a session, since last month and after your latest update. A mood takes a second to give, so you can ask often and see a shift in feeling soon after a change.

Ask one mood question at a time, with a small popup in your web app after a session or a few days after a release, and add one open question on why. Keep the same question running every few weeks so each period compares with the last.

Results shows each face with its share for the dial and emoji questions, and each written answer gets a sentiment and a theme, so the friction and delight users describe sort into a few clear topics.

The 10 mood and sentiment questions, with when to ask each

Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.

How users feel right now

Use one of these as a quick pulse inside the product, and ask it the same way every time.

  1. 01Mood dial

How are you feeling about the product right now?

A mood dial for how the user feels about the product today. Results shows each face with its share, and the comparison with the period before shows the trend.

  2. 02Mood dial

    How did that just feel?

A mood for the moment that just passed, such as a finished task or a new screen. Show it right after that moment, so the feeling belongs to it.

  3. 10Emoji

How do you feel when you come back to the product?

Five faces for how users feel when they return. Ask it a few seconds into a visit with a delay trigger, and Results shows the share of each face.

  4. 09Slider

How energizing is working in the product, 0 to 100?

How energizing the product feels, from 0 to 100. Results shows the median and the middle half, so you can see whether users agree or sit far apart.

Change over time

These compare today with last month or the last release, so you can see whether feelings are moving.

  1. 03Mood dial

Compared to a month ago, how do you feel about us?

Asks users to compare how they feel with a month ago. Ask it of users who have been around for at least a month, using targeting by user traits from Starter.

  2. 04Mood dial

How does the latest update feel?

How the latest update feels. Ask it a few days after a release, once users have tried it, and read the faces next to the friction question.

  3. 05Big scale

How confident are you using the product?

How confident users feel, on a 1 to 10 scale. Results shows the average and a column per step, and a low average points to features users haven't learned yet.

The reasons behind the mood

Ask one of these after a mood question, so each face comes with a story.

  1. 06Text

Where do you feel the most friction?

Where users feel the most friction. Each answer gets a theme and a sentiment, so the same rough spot named by many users stands out.

  2. 07Text

    What moment delighted you recently?

A recent moment that delighted the user. The themes show what to protect in your next release, and the best answers are worth sharing with your team.

  3. 08Text

Describe the product in one word.

One word for the product. Look for the words that repeat and whether they sound positive, and compare them with the words you use in your marketing.

Tips for asking about mood and sentiment

Small choices that get honest, useful answers.

  1. 01

Ask one mood at a time

Show a single mood question with one open question after it. A pulse that takes seconds can run every few weeks without wearing users out.

  2. 02

    Keep the wording the same

Ask the same mood question every time, so a change in the faces reflects a change in feeling.

  3. 03

    Ask after the moment

Show mood questions right after a session, a task or a release, so the feeling belongs to something you can name.

  4. 04

    Read the reasons, then act

Select a low face in Results to filter the page, and read what those users said about friction.
