Sustainability questions that show which efforts your customers value
Ask customers how responsible you seem, which practices matter to them and what they would trade for a greener option. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What sustainability survey questions tell you
Sustainability survey questions ask customers how responsible your business seems, which practices matter when they choose a company, what they would pay or wait for a greener option and how far they believe green claims. Customers judge these efforts by what they see, and these answers show which ones they notice and value before you put more money behind them.
Ask once or twice a year in a customer survey by email, or after a purchase or delivery when packaging and shipping are on the customer's mind. Pick four or five questions, and keep the questions on price and speed so the answers reflect real choices.
Each written answer gets a theme and a sentiment, so ideas for what you should be doing and examples from other companies sort into a few clear themes. Results shows the average points per area and the median extra customers would pay, which helps when you set priorities.

Tips for asking about sustainability and ethics
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask about real trade-offs
Include the price and delivery questions, since a willingness to pay or wait says more than agreeing that the planet matters.
- 02
Back claims with facts
When trust in green claims is low, share what you have done in numbers before you ask again.
- 03
Ask right after a delivery
Ask about packaging and shipping right after a delivery, when customers have the box in front of them.
- 04
Keep the questions the same each year
Ask the same questions each round so you can see whether your efforts change how customers see you.
