Usertick
Customer pulse survey template

Track how users feel each week, before a bad week turns into churn

Three questions in your web app: a mood for the week, a confidence score from 1 to 10 and what is behind the feeling. Usertick reads every written answer and gives each response a customer risk reading, so a user who is about to leave stands out.

What this customer pulse survey tells you

A customer pulse survey repeats a short check on a schedule, so you see how feelings change from one week to the next. This template asks how users feel about the product this week on a mood dial, how confident they feel using it on a 1 to 10 scale, and what is behind that feeling, in about 45 seconds.

It is written for a popup in your web app, shown to signed-in users once a week. Set the show frequency to every 7 days and choose to show it again after the wait once a user answers. From Starter, target active users by traits you pass with Usertick.identify(), such as plan or signup date.

Results shows the share of each face from frustrated to very happy, the average confidence with a column per step, and each written answer with its theme and sentiment, all compared with the period before. Usertick also gives each response a customer risk reading, and the weekly written reading of what changed and what to do arrives once a week has 30 responses.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Mood dial

How do you feel about the product this week?

Why ask it
A mood dial takes a second to turn and captures how the week went. Feelings shift after a release, an outage or a price change, long before a yearly survey would notice.
What you learn
Five faces from frustrated to very happy, each with its share, against the period before, so a week with more frustrated users stands out. Select Frustrated to read only those users' reasons.
Make it yours
Keep the words this week in the label, so users rate recent use, and compare each week with your release dates.
Question 2 of 3 · Big scale

How confident do you feel using it?

Why ask it
Confidence measures whether users feel able to get value from the product, which differs from liking it. Low confidence points to onboarding and help content more than to missing features.
What you learn
The average confidence and a column per step from 1 to 10, against the period before. Select the low steps to read what those users wrote.
Make it yours
From Starter, run one copy for users in their first month and one for everyone else, targeted by signup date, to see where confidence grows.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What's behind that feeling?

Why ask it
The mood and the score say where users stand. The reason says what moved them, such as a new feature, a slow page or a confusing change.
What you learn
Each answer with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, so a theme that grows week over week shows early.
Make it yours
Keep it optional, so users can send the mood and the score in two taps.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Ask once a week

Set the frequency to every 7 days and show it again after each answer, so each active user gets one pulse a week and never two in a day.

  2. 02

    Ask people who used it

Open it after a few pages viewed on any plan, or from Starter target traits such as plan or last login, so the people who answer have used the product that week.

  3. 03

    Keep a log of changes

Keep release and outage dates next to the pulse, so a dip in mood has an explanation you can check.

  4. 04

    Act on the risk readings

On every plan, a workflow posts responses marked about to leave to Slack or Microsoft Teams, so someone contacts the user that week.

Frequently asked questions

Weekly suits a product people use every week. For a product used once a month, set the wait to 30 days, so each answer reflects new use.

Keep it to three questions and one showing a week. A user who closes it isn't asked again until the wait after that showing has passed.

The website script runs in web apps and single-page apps. A mobile app can open a link copy of the survey in a browser view instead.

Read that week's written answers, check which themes grew and compare them with what you shipped. Once a week has 30 responses, the weekly written reading in Results says what changed and what to do.

Signed-in users who used the product that week. On any plan, open it after a few pages viewed; from Starter, target traits such as plan or role passed with Usertick.identify(), so trial users and paying customers can each get their own copy.
