Find out what wishlists wait for, and what would tip the purchase

Two quick questions for shoppers looking at their wishlist: why an item is saved instead of bought, and what would make them buy it. Show it on the wishlist page, and Usertick reads every typed Other answer for you.

What this wishlist survey tells you

A wishlist survey asks shoppers why they saved an item for later, the step between interest and purchase that your analytics only counts. This template keeps it to two questions and about 25 seconds: the main reason the item is on the wishlist, from waiting for a sale to not being sure they need it, and what would make them buy it.

It is written for a popup on the wishlist page, shown when a shopper opens it. A page rule on the wishlist address with the page load trigger or a short delay works on every plan, and the survey shows nowhere else in the store. The same survey runs as a link in a wishlist reminder email your store sends. On phones the popup opens as a sheet along the bottom of the screen, so the saved items stay in view above it.

Every typed Other answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as stock and availability or checkout and payment, with a type and an urgency. Results shows the share of each reason and of each thing that would tip the purchase, compared with the period before, and selecting Waiting for a sale shows what those shoppers need before they buy.

The 2 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 2 · Multiple choice

Why is this item on your wishlist rather than in your cart?

Why ask it
Saved items stall for different reasons, and each one needs a different nudge: a price drop, a comparison, a payday, a gift date or reassurance. One required answer tells you which nudge to build first.
What you learn
A donut shows the share and count of each reason, with typed Other answers listed, and over time as stacked shares, so a rise in Waiting for a sale before a holiday is easy to see. Select Saving it as a gift idea to see what those shoppers say would make them buy.
Make it yours
If wishlists on your store hold several items, change the label to name the item saved most recently, so shoppers know which one you mean.
Question 2 of 2 · Multiple choice · Optional

What would make you buy it?

Why ask it
The reason an item waits and the thing that would move it can differ. A shopper deciding between options may still want more reviews, and several answers can apply at once.
What you learn
Bars show the share and count of each answer, with typed Other answers listed. Select A lower price to see which reasons for saving those shoppers gave.
Make it yours
Keep Nothing in particular, so shoppers who are simply collecting ideas can answer honestly.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Show it on the wishlist only

Use a page rule on the wishlist address, so the survey opens where shoppers think about saved items and nowhere else in the store.

  2. 02

    Ask each shopper once

The survey shows until a shopper answers. Keep that default, since a wishlist is a page people come back to often.

  3. 03

Build nudges from the top reason

When Waiting for a sale leads, a price-drop email to wishlist owners is the natural test. When My size being in stock leads, restock alerts come first. When Deciding between options leads, a side-by-side view of the saved items is worth testing before any discount.

  4. 04

Add a written question if needed

The template asks two quick questions and no open one. Add an optional question about what is missing, and Usertick reads every answer as it arrives.

Then check whether the share of each reason changes. Read the typed Other answers too, since they often name a reason your list is missing.
