Business banking questions that show what owners need from their bank
Ask business owners how the account fits the way they work, from staff access to taking payments. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What business banking survey questions tell you
Business banking survey questions ask owners how your account fits the way the business runs: who has access, how payments come in and go out, whether the accounting software connects and how well the bank understands the business. An owner with a quiet problem may never complain, and then move the account after the next credit decision.
Ask a few months after the account opens and once a year after that, plus a short survey after any credit decision. Send it by email to the account owner, or show it in your online banking for business, and pick five or six questions, starting with the recommend score.
Written answers get a category, a theme, a type and a sentiment, and each response an urgency, so a request for a missing feature reaches product and a complaint reaches the relationship manager. Give each response an owner in the inbox, and send them to HubSpot or open a ticket in Zendesk.

The 14 business banking questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
Who the business is
Ask the size, the number of users and the payment volume first, so every other answer can be read by the kind of business.
- 01Dropdown
How big is your business?
The size of the business, from just me to over 250 people. Choose a size in Results, since a solo owner and a team of fifty need very different things from the account.
- 14Number
How many people have access to the business account?
How many people can use the account, typed as a number. Read it with the staff access score; a business with many users and a low score needs better permission tools.
- 11Ruler
How many payments does your business send in a month?
Payments sent a month, on a ruler up to 500. Results shows the median and the middle half, which helps you size bulk payment and approval features.

Which business products the owner uses, from checking to foreign exchange. The bars in Results show which products most owners use and which you could offer more widely.

How customers pay the business, from bank transfer to a mix. The donut in Results shows where a product such as a card terminal or a payment link would fit.
- 04Yes / No

Whether the accounting software connects to the account. Select No in Results to read what those owners said the business needs and can't get today.

How easy is it to give staff access to the account?
How easy it is to give staff access. Results shows the average and the share who found it easy; low scores point at permissions and invitations, which matter more as the business grows.
How the bank serves the business
Put the recommend score beside the manager rating and the grid, so you can see which part of the service moves it.
- 13NPS
How likely are you to recommend us to another business owner?
The recommend question for business owners. Results shows the score, detractors, passives and promoters, and the split per device; put it first in a yearly survey.
- 05Stars

- 07Text
What does your business need from a bank that you cannot get today?
The open question on unmet needs. Answers arrive with a sentiment and a theme, and the type sorts ideas from complaints for the product team.

A yes or no on being turned down for credit. Select Yes in Results to read those owners' trust and recommend scores, and follow up with care.

Tips for asking about business banking
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask the person who runs the account
Send the survey to the owner or the person who handles the account day to day. Staff users see only part of the service.
- 02
Ask yearly and after credit decisions
Run a yearly survey, plus a short one after any credit decision. Results compares each card with the period before.
- 03
Read results by business size
Read solo owners apart from larger teams. Their needs differ, and a single average hides both.
- 04
Share the gaps with product and sales
Each quarter, read the themes in what owners need and why they chose you, and pass them to the teams that can act on them.
