Wealth management client survey template

Prepare every annual meeting, with what each client wants next year

Five questions before the annual review: how likely clients are to recommend their relationship manager, how the past year rated, how often they want to meet and what matters for the year ahead. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this wealth management client survey tells you

A wealth management client survey asks private clients about the past year before you sit down together. This template asks five questions in about two minutes: how likely they are to recommend their relationship manager, a grid for responsiveness, ideas, reporting, goals and performance, how often they want to review the portfolio, what matters to them next year and what they would change about the service.

It is written for an email a week or two before the annual meeting, so the relationship manager reads the answers first. The same template runs as a link the relationship manager adds to the meeting invitation, or in the chat layout, which asks one question at a time.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, with a type, a sentiment and an urgency, and each response gets a customer risk reading. Results shows the NPS with its detractors, passives and promoters, a heat map for the past year and the share for each review rhythm, each against the period before.

The 5 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 5 · NPS

How likely are you to recommend your relationship manager to a friend?

Why ask it
Private clients come through referrals, and the relationship manager is who they would refer. Asking about the person keeps the score tied to the relationship clients actually have.
What you learn
Results shows the NPS (promoters 9 to 10 minus detractors 0 to 6), a bar of detractors, passives and promoters, and the score over time as a line.
Make it yours
Keep it first. It can be answered inside the email, and the rest of the survey opens with that score kept.
Question 2 of 5 · Matrix · Optional

How would you rate the past year on the following?

Why ask it
A score says how the year felt; the grid says why, across the five things clients judge a relationship manager on, including the returns.
What you learn
Results shows a heat map per row with row averages, so a weak Proactive ideas row stands out even when Investment performance is strong.
Make it yours
Read Investment performance apart from the other rows, since markets move it more than service does.
Question 3 of 5 · Multiple choice

How often would you like to review your portfolio together?

Why ask it
Clients differ on how often they want to meet. Their answer sets next year's rhythm before the meeting starts.
What you learn
A donut shows the share and count of each rhythm, and over time as stacked shares, so you can plan your managers' calendars for the year.
Make it yours
Select Every month to see which of those clients are passives or detractors, since they may want more contact than they get.
Question 4 of 5 · Text · Optional

What matters most to you for the year ahead?

Why ask it
Goals change with the sale of a business, a retirement or a child starting college. One open question puts the client's priority in front of the manager before the meeting.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives and files it under a category and a theme from your list, with a sentiment, in any language, so the themes across all clients show what to prepare for.
Make it yours
Have each manager read the answer before the meeting and open the conversation with it.
Question 5 of 5 · Text · Optional

Is there anything about our service you'd like to change?

Why ask it
Clients rarely raise a complaint in a friendly annual meeting. A second open question, in writing and ahead of time, gives them room to say what they would change.
What you learn
Usertick marks each answer as a complaint, an idea or a question, flags the urgent ones and gives the response a customer risk reading. Results shows up to 8 themes with their trends.
Make it yours
Give every complaint an owner in the inbox before the meeting, so the manager arrives with an answer.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Send it two weeks ahead

Schedule the send up to 30 days before your meeting season, so answers arrive in time for each manager to prepare.

  2. 02

    Give each manager a copy

Results reads a survey as a whole. To give each relationship manager their own NPS and grid, give each one a copy of the survey and their own client list.

  3. 03

    Send it from your firm

Connect your own sender, so the email comes from your firm's address and clients recognize it, with no monthly email allowance to count.

  4. 04

Bring the answers to the meeting

Have each manager open the client's response in the inbox before the meeting and add notes after it, so next year's review starts from what was agreed.
