Renewal questions that show why policyholders stay or switch
Ask policyholders how their last renewal went, from the notice and the price to the decision to stay. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What insurance renewal survey questions tell you
Insurance renewal survey questions ask policyholders what they did at renewal, whether they shopped around, how clear the notice was and whether their coverage still matches their life. Renewal is when a policyholder decides whether to stay, and the answers show what would keep them before the next notice goes out.
Ask a week or two after the renewal date, whether the policyholder stayed or left, and use the question on the renewal date in a survey a month or two before it. Send it by email or put the link in your renewal confirmation, and pick four to six questions.
Written answers get a category, a theme, a type and a sentiment, and each response an urgency, so a policyholder unhappy about a price rise reaches your retention team. Give each response an owner and a status in the inbox, and send them to HubSpot.

Tips for asking about insurance renewals
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask stayers and leavers
Send the survey to policyholders who renewed and to those who left. The leavers tell you what the notice and price didn't.
- 02
Ask soon after the renewal date
Send it a week or two after renewal, while the price and the notice are fresh.
- 03
Follow up on life changes
Give answers about life changes an owner in the inbox, so someone offers a coverage review.
- 04
Test the notice
Ask about the notice after you change its wording or timing. Results compares each card with the period before.
