Packaging questions that cut waste without more breakages
Ask shoppers how much packaging came with their order, whether they could recycle it and how well it protected the item. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What packaging survey questions tell you
Packaging survey questions ask shoppers how much packaging arrived, whether they could recycle it, how well it protected the item and what they did with the box. Packaging is the first thing a shopper touches, and these answers help you cut waste and cost without sending more items out broken.
Ask a day or two after delivery, by email or with a link in your own delivery message, while the box is still in the house. Three or four questions per survey is enough, and the photo question suits orders that arrived damaged or overpacked.
Each written answer gets a category, a theme, a type such as complaint or idea, and a sentiment, so complaints about plastic or crushed boxes are easy to filter. The inbox gives every response an owner, so a damaged item reaches support the same day.

The 13 packaging and waste questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
How much packaging arrived
Ask how much came in the box and where it went, to see how much waste each order leaves behind.
- 01Multiple choice
How much packaging came with your order?
Five steps from far too little to far too much. The donut shows the share for each, and a lean toward too much tells you there is room to cut before protection suffers.
- 03Multiple choice
What was in the box besides your order?
Shoppers pick everything in the box besides the order, from bubble wrap to a catalog. Bars show each share, so you can see how often extras such as plastic bags still go out.
- 11Ruler
How many pieces of packaging did you throw away?
How many pieces of packaging went in the trash, on a ruler. Results shows the median and the middle half, a number to track after each packaging change.
- 02Yes / No
Could you recycle everything in the box?
A yes or no on recycling. Choose No in Results to read the other answers from those shoppers, since the open question may name the part that couldn't be recycled.
- 04Dropdown
What did you do with the box?
What the shopper did with the box, from recycling to keeping it for a return. Results shows the share of each, a check on whether a reusable box would get reused.
Protection and first look
Check that the packaging did its job, so any cut you make doesn't send more items out broken.
- 06Stars
How well protected was the item in transit?
A star rating for protection in transit. Ask it beside the amount of packaging, since cutting packaging only works if this average holds.
- 08Emoji
How did the parcel look when it reached you?
A row of faces for how the parcel looked on arrival. Results shows each face's share, a quick read on crushed or wet boxes before the item is even opened.
- 12Matrix
Rate each part of the packaging
Rates box size, protection, ease of opening and materials in one grid. The heat map shows which part pulls the rest down, with an average for each row.
- 10File upload
Add a photo of the packaging as it arrived
A photo of the packaging as it arrived, attached to the answer. It shows the carrier and the warehouse what happened. File upload is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free, and location data is removed from the photo.
What shoppers would trade
Ask how much low waste matters and what shoppers would give up for it, before you change boxes or suppliers.
- 07Big scale
How much does low waste packaging matter to you?
How much low waste packaging matters, on a scale of 1 to 10. A column per step in Results shows whether your shoppers care enough to notice a change.
- 05Multiple choice
Would you take plainer packaging if it cut waste?
Whether shoppers would accept plainer packaging to cut waste. The donut shows the share for each answer, and the share who want it only if it costs less tells you how to price it.
- 13This or that
For packaging you would rather
Two pairs: plain and recyclable or branded and pretty, and one box or separate parcels. The split bar per pair shows what shoppers prefer before you change suppliers.
- 09Text
What would you change about our packaging?
An open question for the end. Each answer arrives with a theme and a type, so ideas for less plastic and complaints about damage are easy to filter apart.
Tips for asking about packaging and waste
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask while the box is still there
Send the survey a day or two after delivery. A week later, the box is gone and the details with it.
- 02
Watch protection when you cut
Track the protection rating beside the amount of packaging, so a lighter box doesn't trade waste for breakages.
- 03
Ask for photos of problems
Show the photo question with logic only to shoppers who report damage or far too much packaging.
- 04
Compare before and after a change
Each Results card compares with the period before, so check the answers in the weeks after a new box or filler goes out.
