Learn if restock alerts still sell, and how long shoppers will wait

Three quick questions for a few days after a back-in-stock alert: whether the shopper still wanted the item, whether they bought it and how long they would wait for an item they really want. Send it by email or share the link, and add an open question when you want written answers, which Usertick reads for you.

What this back in stock survey tells you

A back in stock survey asks shoppers who signed up for a restock alert what happened when the alert arrived. This template keeps it to three questions and about 20 seconds: a yes or no on whether they still wanted the item, a yes or no on whether they bought it, and how long they would wait for an item they really want.

It is written for an email a few days after your store's back-in-stock alert, to the shoppers who received it. Usertick sends it to a contact list you import from your alert list, now or on a date up to 30 days ahead, and the first question can be answered inside the email. The link also fits the footer of the alert email itself or a follow-up your store sends.

Results shows the share who still wanted the item, the share who bought it and the share of each waiting time, each compared with the period before, and selecting No on question 1 shows how long those shoppers say they would wait. Add an optional open question and Usertick reads every written answer, filing it under a category such as stock and availability.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Yes / No

When we told you the item was back, did you still want it?

Why ask it
A restock alert only works if the shopper still wants the item when it arrives. A yes or no tells you how often interest outlasts the wait.
What you learn
Results shows the share that said yes against the period before. Select No to see how long those shoppers say they would wait, which tells you how much sooner the stock was needed.
Make it yours
Add a skip so a No goes straight to question 3, since shoppers who no longer wanted the item have nothing to say about buying it.
Question 2 of 3 · Yes / No

Did you buy it?

Why ask it
Wanting an item and buying it are different steps. The size may have sold out again, the price may have changed or the shopper may have bought elsewhere, and the share who bought says whether alerts earn their place.
What you learn
Results shows the share that said yes against the period before. Select Yes on question 1 to see how many of the shoppers who still wanted the item went on to buy it.
Make it yours
If many shoppers say No here after a Yes to question 1, add an optional open question that asks what stopped them.
Question 3 of 3 · Multiple choice

How long would you wait for an item you really want?

Why ask it
How long shoppers will wait sets the deadline for your restock. Four options, from a few days to more than a month, give buyers and suppliers a target in plain terms.
What you learn
A donut shows the share and count of each waiting time, and over time as stacked shares, so you can see whether patience changes with the season.
Make it yours
Ask it of every shopper, including those who no longer wanted the item, since their answer shows how late the restock came.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Send it a few days after the alert

Give shoppers time to see the alert and decide. Import the list of shoppers who received the alert as a CSV and schedule the send from Usertick.

  2. 02

    Group alerts by product type

Waiting times differ between a winter coat and a phone case. Run one copy per category so each waiting chart describes one kind of product.

  3. 03

Use the wait as a restock target

Share the waiting chart with whoever orders stock. If most shoppers pick Up to two weeks, a restock that takes a month misses them.

  4. 04

    Add one open question

The template has no written question. Add an optional one, such as what stopped you from buying, and Usertick reads each answer as it arrives.

No. Usertick doesn't watch your store's alerts. Import the list of shoppers who got the alert and send or schedule the survey from Usertick, or add its link to a follow-up email your store sends.

Shoppers owe you nothing after an alert, so the survey asks only what you need and takes about 20 seconds. Add an optional open question if you want reasons.

Yes. The first question sits inside the email as Yes and No buttons, and a tap opens the rest of the survey with that answer kept. The response is stored when the shopper submits.

Compare how long they say they would wait with how long your restock took. Restock sooner where you can, and reconsider alerts for items that come back long after interest fades.
