Product page survey template

Find what your product pages leave out, while shoppers are still deciding

Four questions for shoppers on a product page: whether it answered their questions, what was missing, how helpful the photos and videos were and what would make them confident to buy. Show it after 45 seconds on the page, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this product page survey tells you

A product page survey asks shoppers about the page in front of them, before they buy or leave. This template asks four questions in about a minute: a yes or no on whether the page answered their questions, which information was missing from a list of six, a star rating for the photos and videos, and an open question about what would make them confident to buy.

It is written for a popup that opens after 45 seconds on a product page, long enough for a shopper to have read the page and looked for something. A page rule such as pages that start with /products/ keeps it off the home page and checkout. Delays, scroll depth and page rules work on every plan, and the same survey can run as a link in an email to recent browsers you already know.

Every written answer and typed Other is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as finding products or product quality, with a type and an urgency. Results shows the share of shoppers whose questions were answered, the missing details by share and the photo rating, each compared with the period before, and the Audience tab lists the pages the answers came from.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Yes / No

Did this page answer your questions about the product?

Why ask it
A product page has one job before the cart: answer the questions that stop a purchase. A yes or no gives you a number to track for that job across every page.
What you learn
Results shows the share that said yes against the period before. Select No to filter the page to shoppers left with questions and see which details they missed.
Make it yours
Add a skip so a Yes goes straight to question 3, since the list of missing details is only for shoppers who said No.
Question 2 of 4 · Multiple choice · Optional

What information was missing?

Why ask it
The missing detail tells you exactly what to add: dimensions, materials, delivery time, photos in use, reviews or compatibility. Shoppers can pick several.
What you learn
Bars show the share and count of each missing detail, with typed Other answers listed, so a detail you never thought to include gets a line of its own.
Make it yours
Swap the options for your category, such as Ingredients for beauty, Care instructions for clothing or Battery life for electronics.
Question 3 of 4 · Stars

How helpful were the photos and videos?

Why ask it
Shoppers can't touch the product, so photos and video carry most of the weight on the page. A separate rating tells you whether to spend on better images.
What you learn
Results shows the average rating, a bar per rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, against the period before, so a new photo shoot shows its effect.
Make it yours
Use the page filter to compare products with video against products without it, and see whether the rating moves.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

What would make you more confident about buying?

Why ask it
Shoppers can say in a sentence what holds them back: a return policy they can't find, a size they aren't sure of, a question about shipping abroad.
What you learn
Each answer appears with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, and questions are marked as questions so you can answer them on the page.
Make it yours
Turn the most common questions into a short answers section on the product page, then check whether the share of No drops.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

How helpful were the photos and videos?

The average rating and the share who gave 4 or 5 stars, against the period before.

What information was missing?

The share of each answer with its count. Select an answer to narrow the whole page to those people and read what else they said.

Every written answer, read for you

Each answer arrives with its category, theme, type and urgency, so the urgent ones reach your team first.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Ask after the page is read

A 45-second delay counts only while the tab is visible, so the survey reaches shoppers who actually looked at the page and skips tabs left open in the background.

  2. 02

Compare pages in the Audience tab

The Audience tab lists the pages the answers came from, with the photo rating beside each, and the page filter narrows every card to a single product.

  3. 03

Keep the cart and checkout out

Limit the survey to product pages with a page rule such as pages that start with /products/, so shoppers in the middle of an order never see it.

  4. 04

    Fix, then measure again

Add the most requested detail to a group of pages, then compare the share of Yes with the period before.

Frequently asked questions

After the shopper has had time to read the page, such as 45 seconds. The delay counts only while the tab is visible, so a page left open in the background doesn't open it.

Yes. The Audience tab lists the pages the answers came from, and the page filter narrows every card in Results to the answers from one product page.

The pages your page rule includes. Use a rule such as pages that start with /products/, and exclude any you want to leave out, such as gift cards.

Until they answer, by default. For a store people browse often, set it to show again only after a number of days, so regulars aren't asked on every visit.

Yes. Product pages are part of your own store, so the website survey runs there. Only Shopify's checkout, thank you and order status pages don't run website surveys.
