Hybrid work survey template

Set your office policy, with the team's answers in hand

Three questions before you change your office policy: how many days people would choose to come in, what the office is best for and what would make the trip worth it. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this hybrid work survey tells you

A hybrid work survey asks employees how they would split their week between home and the office before you set the rules. This template asks three questions in under a minute: how many office days they would choose, what the office is best for, and what would make coming in worth it.

It is written for the weeks before a policy change, as an email Usertick sends to every employee with the days question inside the email, or as a link in your team chat. A QR code on the office notice board reaches the people who already come in. The same survey can run as a conversation, one question at a time.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as team and culture or tools and processes, with a type and an urgency. Results shows the share for each number of office days and bars for what the office is best for, so the policy can start from what people use the office for.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Multiple choice

How many days a week would you choose to work from the office?

Why ask it
The number of days people would choose is the starting point for any policy, and a single pick from None to 5 is quick to answer.
What you learn
A donut with the share and count for each number of days, so you see where the answers cluster and how far apart the ends are.
Make it yours
Keep the wording on what people would choose, so the answers describe preferences and don't turn into a vote on the current policy.
Question 2 of 3 · Multiple choice · Optional

What is the office best for?

Why ask it
What the office is for decides how to use it, and people can pick several uses. Nothing I can't do at home gives skeptics a fair answer.
What you learn
Bars with the share and count of each use, with typed Other answers listed. Select 3 in the first question to see what people who want three days use the office for.
Make it yours
Add the uses your office supports, such as a lab, a studio or client visits. If Nothing I can't do at home takes a large share, plan the office around the uses that remain.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What would make coming into the office worth it?

Why ask it
The open question collects what would change the trade-off, such as a quiet room, a fixed team day or help with travel costs.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer, files it under a category and a theme such as team and culture or pay and benefits, marks ideas and complaints, and flags the urgent ones.
Make it yours
Group the answers into what the company can change now, like team days, and what needs a budget, like travel support.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Ask before you decide

Share it a few weeks before the policy changes, and say when you will share the results and the decision.

  2. 02

Add a question on the role

Teams that work differently may want different weeks, so add a question that names the team or role and select its answers in Results to compare.

  3. 03

Show the numbers with the decision

When you announce the policy, show the share for each number of days and the top uses of the office, so people see how the answers shaped it.

  4. 04

    Ask again after a quarter

Run it again once the policy has been in place for three months, and compare the answers with the period before.
