Usertick
Article feedback survey template

Learn which articles land, right where readers finish them

Three questions at the end of an article: was it useful, how good was it and what was missing or unclear. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this article feedback survey tells you

An article feedback survey asks readers about the piece they just read, while it is still on the screen. This template keeps it to three questions and under a minute: a yes or no on whether the article was useful, a five-star rating and an open question about what was missing or unclear.

It is written to sit inside the page at the end of every article, where it shows as soon as the page loads and waits for the readers who reach the bottom. It works the same on news stories, explainers, guides and help articles, and the same template also runs as a popup that opens when a reader finishes reading, or as a link you share.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as content quality or topics and coverage, with a type and a sentiment, so a factual error stands apart from a request for more depth. Results shows the share who found the article useful and the star average, and the Pages card in the Audience tab shows which articles score below the rest.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Yes / No

Was this article useful?

Why ask it
A single tap is the lightest question a reader can answer at the end of a page, and it gives every article a usefulness score you can compare across your site.
What you learn
Results shows the share who said yes, against the period before. Choose No to read only the ratings and comments from readers the article didn't help.
Make it yours
Keep it first and required: it is the answer you will sort your articles by.
Question 2 of 3 · Stars

How would you rate it?

Why ask it
Useful and good are different things. A rating separates the article that answered the question but was hard to read from the one readers would send to a friend.
What you learn
The star average, a bar per rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, with each article's rating beside the overall score in the Pages card of the Audience tab.
Make it yours
Read low ratings next to the Yes answers: a useful article with a low rating may need an edit for clarity more than new reporting.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What was missing or unclear?

Why ask it
The open question turns a low score into a fix: the missing step, the term nobody explained or the figure that looked wrong.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, gives it a category, a theme and a sentiment, and marks it as a complaint, an idea, a question or a bug, so a reported error doesn't sit among notes on style.
Make it yours
On every plan, send answers marked as bugs or with high urgency to the desk's Slack channel with a workflow, so a correction reaches an editor the same day.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Embed it under every article

Place the survey inside the page after the article body with one CSS selector, and every article gets it without editing each page.

  2. 02

Leave out pages that aren't articles

Use page rules to exclude section fronts, search results and the home page, so every answer belongs to one article.

  3. 03

    Read the results by page

Open the Pages card in the Audience tab to see each article's share of answers and its rating, and start with the ones marked clearly lower.

  4. 04

    Update and watch the score

When you correct or expand an article, compare the weeks that follow with the period before to see whether readers noticed.
