Research panel opt-in template

Build a panel of customers who agreed to be asked again

A welcome screen, two questions and a consent box for engaged customers: how often they want to be asked, which topics they want to weigh in on and their agreement to join. Use it as it is or change any question, and every opt-in stays with the contact it was sent to.

What this research panel opt-in survey tells you

A research panel opt-in survey asks customers whether they will give feedback again and on what terms, so later studies go to people who said yes. This template takes about half a minute: a welcome screen that explains the panel, how often they would like to hear from you, the topics they want to give feedback on, and a consent box to join.

It is written for engaged customers, shown once as a popup in your web app to signed-in users or sent by Usertick to a contact list. Either way, the answer must belong to a known person: Usertick email ties each answer to the recipient's contact, and in your web app Usertick.identify() passes the user's email with the answer.

Results shows the share of each frequency and of each topic, and how many of the people who saw the consent box ticked it. In the inbox, filter by an answer, such as Pricing, to find the customers who joined for that topic, then add them to a contact list for the next study.

The 2 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 2 · Multiple choice

How often would you like to hear from us?

Why ask it
Asking how often sets the terms of the panel, so you invite people at the pace they chose and they stay willing to answer.
What you learn
A donut with the share of once a month, once a quarter and only for big changes. Select one to see which topics that group signed up for.
Make it yours
Keep the promise: build one contact list per pace and invite each list only as often as its members chose.
Question 2 of 2 · Multiple choice · Optional

What would you like to give feedback on?

Why ask it
Topics let you invite the right people to each study, so a pricing study goes to the members who asked to weigh in on pricing.
What you learn
Bars with the share and count of each topic, since people can pick several. Select Anything to see the members open to every study.
Make it yours
Name the topics your team actually researches, and add one when a new study area starts.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Show it once, to engaged users

Set the show frequency to once, and target signed-in users on the pages your most active customers use. From Starter, target by plan, role or signup date passed with Usertick.identify().

  2. 02

    Explain the panel up front

Use the welcome screen to say what members get asked, how long each study takes and how to leave, so people know what they join.

  3. 03

    Keep members in contact lists

Add the people who ticked the consent box to a contact list per topic, so each study can go to its list with Send a survey to this list.

  4. 04

    Respect the pace they chose

Invite each member only as often as they asked. Usertick sends no reminders, so a study that needs more answers goes to more members rather than a second email to the same ones.
