Usertick
Dashboard feedback survey template

Learn what your dashboard is worth, from the people who see it at every login

Three short questions for regular users: how useful the dashboard is when they log in, what they look at first and what they never use. Usertick reads every written answer and groups the parts nobody uses into themes.

What this dashboard feedback survey tells you

A dashboard feedback survey asks regular users whether the first screen after login helps them start work. This template takes under a minute: a 1 to 10 usefulness score, the parts they look at first, and one open question about what they never use, so you know what to keep at the top and what to remove.

It is written for the dashboard itself, as a popup for users who have seen it often enough to judge. Target the dashboard page and returning visitors with at least 10 visits, so new users who are still learning the screen don't answer. The same survey also runs as a link in your product newsletter or as an email from Usertick to active users.

Usertick reads each written answer, gives it a theme from your list and a sentiment, and marks ideas and complaints. Results shows the average usefulness with a column per step, the share for each part of the dashboard and the answers about what people never use, each against the period before.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Big scale

How useful is the dashboard when you log in?

Why ask it
Users who log in every day know whether the dashboard saves them a click or sits between them and their work. A 1 to 10 scale gives enough room to see a small change after a redesign.
What you learn
The average and a column per step from 1 to 10, compared with the period before. Select the low columns to read what those users never use.
Make it yours
Run it before and after a dashboard change with the same wording, so the two periods compare cleanly.
Question 2 of 3 · Multiple choice · Optional

What do you look at first?

Why ask it
Where the eye goes first is where the most important card belongs. Allowing more than one answer shows the parts, such as key numbers and alerts, that people read together.
What you learn
Bars with the share and count of each part, since users can pick several, and the typed Other answers listed beside them. Select Alerts to see how useful those users find the dashboard.
Make it yours
Replace the options with the names of the cards on your own dashboard, and keep Other for the ones you haven't thought of.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What on the dashboard do you never use?

Why ask it
Removing a card nobody reads makes the useful ones easier to find. Users rarely complain about clutter on their own, so the question asks directly.
What you learn
Each answer with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends. A card that keeps coming up is a clear candidate for removal or for a setting that hides it.
Make it yours
Keep it optional and read it next to the first question, since a low score with a long list of unused cards points at clutter.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

Every written answer, read for you

Each answer arrives with its category, theme, type and urgency, so the urgent ones reach your team first.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Ask regular users only

Use the visitor type rule to show it from the tenth visit, so the score comes from people who know the screen. New users belong in an onboarding survey.

  2. 02

Open it after the page settles

Add a delay of a few seconds, so the popup opens after the numbers load and the user has had a look at them.

  3. 03

    Compare phones and laptops

Filter Results by device to see whether people on a phone find the dashboard as useful as people on a laptop. A gap points at the layout on small screens.

  4. 04

    Ask again after each redesign

Keep the same survey and set it to show again after a number of days, so the same users rate the new dashboard and the periods compare.
