Usertick
Website messaging survey template

Find out if your site explains enough for a visitor to try you

Two questions for your home and product pages: whether visitors have the information they need to try you and, when they don't, what is missing or unclear. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this website messaging survey tells you

A website messaging survey asks visitors whether your pages explain your offer well enough to act on it. This template takes under a minute: one question on whether they have all the information they need, with three answers, and an open question on what is missing or unclear for everyone who isn't sure. Visitors who have everything they need skip straight to a closing screen that invites them to try it.

It is written for a popup on your home and product pages that opens after 30 seconds, long enough for a visitor to read the first screen. Target the pages by address on every plan, and exclude your signup and checkout pages so people who already decided aren't interrupted. Exit intent, when a visitor is about to leave, works as a second trigger for people who read and decided against trying.

Usertick reads each written answer, files it under a category from your list, such as pricing and value or features and gaps, and marks it as a question, a complaint or an idea. Results shows the share of each answer to the first question, the Pages card on the Audience tab shows where the answers came from, and the closing screen's button clicks are counted.

The 2 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 2 · Multiple choice

Do you have all the information you need to try us?

Why ask it
One question with three answers gives a quick read on clarity without asking visitors to judge your copy. Yes, all of it skips the open question and goes straight to the closing screen with the button to try.
What you learn
A donut with the share of each answer, over time as stacked shares, so a new home page shows its effect against the period before. Select Some of it to read what those visitors found unclear.
Make it yours
Point the closing screen's button at your signup or trial page, so visitors who have what they need can act at once.
Question 2 of 2 · Text · Optional

What's missing or unclear?

Why ask it
Visitors who are missing something can name it: a price, a screenshot, an integration, a plain sentence on what the product does. Each answer is a line you can add to the page or a sentence you can rewrite.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer, gives it a theme from your list and a type, and lists the answers filterable by theme, so missing pricing details or unclear wording group together.
Make it yours
Answer the most common gap on the page itself, then compare the share of Yes, all of it with the period before.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Give visitors time to read

A delay of 30 seconds lets visitors read before the popup opens. Shorten it on short pages and lengthen it on long product pages.

  2. 02

    Leave decided visitors alone

Exclude your signup, checkout and help pages, so the survey reaches visitors who are still making up their minds.

  3. 03

    Compare pages

The Pages card on the Audience tab shows which pages the answers came from. Select a page to read the gaps on that page alone.

  4. 04

    Rewrite, then measure again

Change one page at a time and compare the share of Yes, all of it with the period before, so you know which change helped.
