Cruise feedback survey template

Learn what made the cruise, from the cabin to the shore excursions

Three questions for two days after disembarkation: whether passengers would recommend the cruise, how they rated the cabin, dining, shore excursions, entertainment and boarding, and the moment they will remember. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this cruise feedback survey tells you

A cruise feedback survey asks passengers about the voyage once they are home. This template takes about 70 seconds: a recommendation score, a grid for the cabin, dining, shore excursions, entertainment and boarding, and one open question about the moment they will remember.

It is written for an email two days after disembarkation, sent to a list of the sailing's passengers or placed as a link in the farewell email your booking system sends. The recommendation question sits inside the email, so a passenger answers with one tap and goes on to the rest. A QR code in the cabin or on the last evening's program opens the same survey for passengers who would like to answer before they leave the ship.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as room and facilities or staff and service, with a type, a sentiment and an urgency. Results shows the NPS with its detractors, passives and promoters, a heat map of the five parts of the cruise with their averages, and every story with its theme, each compared with the period before.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · NPS

How likely are you to recommend this cruise to a friend?

Why ask it
A recommendation sums up a voyage of many days in one number, and it is the score to compare sailing by sailing and ship by ship.
What you learn
Results shows the NPS, promoters 9 to 10 minus detractors 0 to 6, with a bar of the three groups, the score per device and a line over time.
Make it yours
Run one survey per ship or itinerary, or add a question that names the sailing, so Results can compare them, since link tags don't split Results.
Question 2 of 3 · Matrix · Optional

How would you rate the following?

Why ask it
A cruise packs a hotel, restaurants, a theater and day trips into one fare, and passengers judge each part on its own. Five rows show which part lifts or lowers the score.
What you learn
A heat map per row with row averages, compared with the period before, so weak shore excursions or a slow boarding day stand out from the rest.
Make it yours
Add a Not applicable column, which is left out of the averages, for passengers who skipped the excursions or the shows, and add rows such as the spa or the kids' club when you offer them.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What moment from the cruise will you remember?

Why ask it
Asking for a moment draws out the stories a grid can't hold, good and bad: the cabin steward who remembered a birthday, the tender wait that cost half a day in port.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, files it under a category and a theme from your list, marks it as praise, a complaint or an idea, and flags the urgent ones. Results lists every answer with its sentiment and shows up to eight themes with their trends.
Make it yours
Select the detractors in question 1 and read their moments first, since they show what cost you the recommendation.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Wait two days after disembarkation

Passengers need a day to travel home and unpack. Schedule the send up to 30 days ahead, timed to the sailing's return date.

  2. 02

Name the ship and the sailing

Add a dropdown with the ship and the sailing date, or duplicate the survey for each itinerary, so Results can show each one on its own.

  3. 03

    Share stories with the crew

Pass the praise that names a crew member on to the ship's team. On every plan, a workflow can post each answer marked as praise to a Slack or Microsoft Teams channel.

  4. 04

    Follow up on urgent answers

An answer about a missed excursion or a cabin problem can carry a refund request. Give each urgent response an owner in the inbox and note what was offered.

Frequently asked questions

Two days after disembarkation, once passengers are home but the voyage is still fresh. For long voyages, the QR code on board gives passengers a way to answer before they leave the ship.

Three to six. This template asks three, with a grid that covers five parts of the cruise, so it takes about 70 seconds.

Usertick doesn't send after an event in your booking system and has no recurring sends. Import each sailing's passengers from a CSV file and schedule the send for two days after the return, or put the survey's link in your farewell email.

Import the list in parts, since each CSV import takes up to 2,000 rows, and send to up to 5,000 people at once. Usertick sends 2,500 emails a month on Pro and 10,000 on Business, or connect your own sender, which has no allowance.

Select the detractors in question 1 to see which row they rated lowest, and read their moments in question 3 for the reason. After the fix, compare the row on the next sailings with the period before.
