Usertick
Post-trip survey template

Hear how the whole trip went, once your travelers are home

Six questions for the email that follows a trip: whether travelers would recommend you, how satisfied they were, how each part rated, whether they would book again and what they loved most. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this post-trip survey tells you

A post-trip survey asks travelers about the whole trip once they are home and have had a day or two to settle. This template takes under two minutes: a recommendation score, overall satisfaction, a rating for booking, accommodation, transportation, activities and value, the chance they book again, the best parts, and one moment in their own words.

It is written for an email two or three days after travelers get back. Import the travelers who returned that week and schedule the send, or put the survey's link in the welcome home email your booking system sends. The first question sits inside the email, so a traveler answers with one tap and goes on to the rest. The same survey can also run on your website or as a conversation.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as staff and service or room and facilities, with a type, a sentiment and an urgency. Results shows the NPS with its detractors, passives and promoters, the share who rated the trip 4 or 5 stars, and a heat map of every part of the trip, each compared with the period before.

The 6 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 6 · NPS

How likely are you to recommend us to a friend or family member?

Why ask it
For a tour operator or agency, past travelers who recommend you are a sales channel of their own. Asking the recommendation first gives you a score to compare from one season to the next.
What you learn
Results shows the NPS, promoters 9 to 10 minus detractors 0 to 6, with a bar of the three groups and a score line over time, so a weaker season shows against the last.
Make it yours
Keep it first. NPS can be answered inside the email with one tap, and the tap opens the rest of the survey with the score kept.
Question 2 of 6 · Stars

Overall, how satisfied were you with your trip?

Why ask it
The recommendation score reflects your company as a whole. A 1 to 5 rating of this trip gives you a CSAT for the trip itself, so a weak itinerary stands out even among loyal travelers.
What you learn
The average rating, a bar per star and the share who rated 4 or higher, compared with the period before.
Make it yours
On every plan, set a workflow alert on this average so your team hears when it drops below a line you choose over the last 7 days.
Question 3 of 6 · Matrix · Optional

How would you rate each part of your trip?

Why ask it
A trip is several services sold as one, and travelers judge each of them on its own. Five rows show whether a low score comes from the hotel, the transfers, the tours or the price.
What you learn
A heat map per row with row averages, so the weakest part of the trip stands out at a glance and can be compared with the period before.
Make it yours
Add a Not applicable column, which is left out of the averages, for trips that had no tours or no transfers.
Question 4 of 6 · Multiple choice

How likely are you to book another trip with us?

Why ask it
The intention to book again is the earliest sign of a repeat customer. Four plain options read more naturally than a second 0 to 10 scale right after the first.
What you learn
A donut with the share and count of each answer, and stacked shares over time. Select Unlikely to narrow the whole page to those travelers and read what they wrote.
Make it yours
Give the Unlikely answers to someone on your team. The inbox gives each response an owner, a status and notes, so the follow-up call has a name on it.
Question 5 of 6 · Multiple choice · Optional

What were the best parts of your trip?

Why ask it
Knowing what made the trip lets your marketing lead with it. Travelers can pick several parts, and the write-in Other catches what your options didn't name.
What you learn
Bars with the share and count of each part, with every typed Other answer listed beside the chart.
Make it yours
Name the things you are known for, such as your local guides, small groups or a signature dinner, so the bars match how you sell the trip.
Question 6 of 6 · Text · Optional

Tell us about a moment from your trip we should hear about

Why ask it
One open question at the end collects the stories a scale can't hold: the guide who found a lost passport, the transfer that never came, the dinner that made the week.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, files it under a category and a theme from your list, and marks it as praise, a complaint or an idea with its sentiment. Results lists every answer and shows up to eight themes with their trends.
Make it yours
Keep it optional, so a traveler with nothing to add still finishes in about a minute.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Wait two or three days

Travelers need a day to unpack, and after a week the details blur. Schedule the send up to 30 days ahead, so it goes out on the right morning.

  2. 02

Send to each week's returning travelers

Usertick doesn't send after an event in another system. Import the travelers who came home that week from a CSV file as a list and send the survey to that list.

  3. 03

    Keep repeat travelers in

Skip people who already received this survey is on by default. Turn it off when a traveler who went with you in spring should be asked again after the next trip.

  4. 04

    Call detractors back quickly

Select scores of 0 to 6 in Results, assign each response an owner in the inbox and reply while the trip is still recent, with notes on what was offered.

Frequently asked questions

Two or three days after travelers get home, once they have unpacked but still remember the details. For long tours, a short check during the trip catches problems you can still fix.

Five or six is enough for a trip that lasted days or weeks. This template asks six, three of them optional, and takes under two minutes.

Usertick doesn't send after an event in another system and has no recurring sends. Import each group of returning travelers and schedule the send, or put the survey's link in the email your booking system sends after the trip. On every plan, a HubSpot workflow can send it to each contact it enrolls, with HubSpot Professional or Enterprise.

Select the detractors or the Unlikely answers in Results, then check which part of the trip they rated lowest in the grid. On every plan, a workflow can post each detractor to Slack or Microsoft Teams as the answer arrives.

Results doesn't split answers by link tag, so run one survey per destination or add a first question that names the trip, then filter Results by that answer.
