Admin and setup survey questions

Setup questions that show where new admins get stuck

Ask the admins who configure your product how setup went, from the first settings page to the data import. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.

What admin setup survey questions tell you

Admin setup survey questions ask the person who configured your product how easy it was, how long it took, which settings were hard to find, how they brought in their data and how confident they are that everything is right. A setup that goes wrong rarely fails loudly. It shows up weeks later as a team that never got invited or a setting nobody found.

Ask right after the admin finishes the setup steps, inside the product, or by email the day after. Pick four or five: the ease score, the setup time, whether they found every setting, the import question and the missing setting.

Each response gets an owner and a status in the inbox, so an admin who isn't confident in the setup can get a call from customer success. Written answers get a theme and a type, and screenshots of confusing pages arrive in a gallery with the answer.

The 13 admin and setup questions, with when to ask each

Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.

How the setup went

Start with the ease score and the time, then the feeling and the confidence, so you know which admins need a check.

  1. 01Customer effort

How easy was it to configure the workspace?

A customer effort score for configuring the workspace. Results shows the average and the share who found it easy, and each card compares with the period before your last setup change.

  2. 02Ruler

How many minutes did the initial setup take?

Setup time in minutes, on a ruler up to two hours. The median and the middle half show what a typical setup takes, a fair number to give new admins in your onboarding emails.

  3. 10Mood dial

How did the setup process feel?

A mood dial for how setup felt overall. Results shows the faces with each share, a quick read on how the first hour with your product left the admin feeling.

  4. 07Big scale

How confident are you that the setup is correct?

Confidence that the setup is correct, on a ten-step scale. Low scores are a reason to offer a setup check before the rest of the team starts using the product.

Finding the right settings

These questions show which settings admins looked for, where they got lost and which ones don't exist yet.

  1. 03Yes / No

Did you find every setting you were looking for?

Asks whether the admin found every setting they looked for. Select No in Results to see which settings those admins picked as hard to find.

  2. 04Multiple choice

Which settings were hard to find?

Lets the admin pick every settings area that was hard to find, from branding to data retention. The bars show which settings to move or link from the setup steps.

  3. 13Screenshot

Capture the settings page that confused you

The admin captures the settings page that confused them. The gallery shows the exact page and control, a quick brief for your designers. Screenshot is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free.

  4. 09Text

Which setting should exist but does not?

An open question for a setting that should exist. Filter the answers by theme to see which requests repeat, and give each one an owner.

Help during setup

The instructions, the import path and support contact show how self-serve your setup is.

  1. 05Stars

How clear were the setup instructions?

Five stars for the setup instructions. A low average next to a long setup time points to the instructions as the reason, a page your team can fix quickly.

  2. 08Yes / No

Did you need to contact support during setup?

Asks whether the admin needed support during setup. The share of Yes shows how self-serve your setup is, and selecting Yes shows which settings those admins struggled with.

  3. 06Multiple choice

How did you import your existing data?

One choice for how existing data came in, from a CSV to your own team. The donut shows which import path to make smoother first.

Who runs the account

End with who manages the account day to day and how each admin area works for them.

  1. 11Dropdown

Who manages the account day to day?

Who manages the account day to day, from one admin to nobody yet. A Nobody yet share points to accounts at risk of stalling after setup.

  2. 12Matrix

    Rate each admin area

Rates users and roles, branding, security and billing on one grid. The heat map shows which admin area needs work first.

Tips for asking about admin and setup

Small choices that get honest, useful answers.

  1. 01

    Ask when setup is done

Show the survey after the last setup step, or send it the next day by email. Asked during setup, it interrupts the work.

  2. 02

    Offer help to unsure admins

Give every low confidence score an owner in the inbox, and offer a short setup check before the team joins.

  3. 03

    Keep it short

An admin who just finished setup has little patience left. Pick four or five questions and end with the missing setting.

  4. 04

    Track setup after each change

Each card in Results compares with the period before, so watch the ease score and the setup time after you change the setup flow.
