Security review survey template

Shorten your security reviews, with what buyers' teams tell you

Four questions for the buyer once their security review is signed off: how easy it was to get what they needed, what they asked for, how long it took and what was missing. Usertick reads every written answer and groups the gaps into themes.

What this security review survey tells you

A security review survey asks the buyer's team how hard it was to get your security documents and answers. This template takes about a minute: an effort score, the documents they asked for, how long it took to get everything and one open question about what was missing or hard to get.

It is written for an email to the buyer's security contact when the review is signed off. Add the contact to a list and send it from Usertick, or have the account executive share the survey's link in the sign-off thread. A link on your security page reaches reviewers who are still in the middle of a review.

Results shows the effort score with the share who found it easy, the share of each document request and the share for each time frame, against the period before. Usertick reads each written answer and files it under a theme with a type and a sentiment, so the same gap named in several reviews stands out.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Customer effort

How easy was it to get what your security team needed?

Why ask it
A security review slows a deal when documents are hard to find or answers take days. The effort score measures that friction from the buyer's side.
What you learn
The average on the 1 to 7 scale and the share who found it easy, with a hard-to-easy bar, compared with the period before.
Make it yours
Keep it first, so the reviewer can tap a score inside the email and open the rest of the survey.
Question 2 of 4 · Multiple choice · Optional

What did your team ask for?

Why ask it
The documents buyers ask for most are the ones to keep ready and current. Allowing several answers shows the full package a typical review needs.
What you learn
Bars with the share and count of each request, since reviewers can pick several, with the typed Other answers listed. Select A security questionnaire to see how long those reviews took.
Make it yours
Match the options to the documents you can share today, and add any your sales team is asked for often.
Question 3 of 4 · Multiple choice

How long did it take to get everything?

Why ask it
Time to complete is what the review costs the deal. Four plain time frames make it a quick answer you can compare across the year.
What you learn
A donut with the share for each time frame, over time as stacked shares. Select More than a month to read what was missing in those reviews.
Make it yours
Read it with the requests, since a review that took more than a month often points to one document you didn't have ready.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

What was missing or hard to get?

Why ask it
The missing piece is the next document to prepare, named by the person who had to chase it.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer and gives it a theme, a type such as a complaint or a question, and a sentiment. Results lists the answers filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends.
Make it yours
Keep it optional, and share the answers each quarter with whoever owns your security documents.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Send it at sign-off

Ask the day the review is signed off, while the reviewer remembers each request. Later, the deal and the review blur together.

  2. 02

    Ask the reviewer directly

Send it to the person on the buyer's security team who ran the review, who may be someone other than your main contact.

  3. 03

    Keep sales in the loop

On every plan, a workflow posts each response to your sales channel in Slack or Microsoft Teams, so the account executive sees what slowed the deal.

  4. 04

    Prepare the top gap first

Each quarter, take the theme that comes up most in the last question and add that document to the package you send at the start of every review.
