Security and compliance survey questions

Security questions that show what buyers need before they sign

Ask buyers and their security teams what they require from a vendor and how your security review went. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.

What security and compliance survey questions tell you

Security and compliance survey questions ask buyers how safe their data feels with you, which certifications and controls they expect, where data should be stored and how the security review went. A slow security review can hold up a deal that is otherwise agreed, and the answers show where your documents and process add the delay.

Ask the requirement questions during an evaluation, by link in an email from sales, and the review questions once the review is done. Pick four or five per survey, and keep the contact, upload and signature questions for buyers who are ready to exchange documents.

Each response gets an owner and a status in the inbox, so a buyer waiting on documents doesn't wait on a shared mailbox. Uploaded questionnaires and signatures arrive in a gallery with the answer, with location data removed from pictures, and written answers get a theme and a sentiment.

The 14 security and compliance questions, with when to ask each

Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.

How safe your product feels

Start with the feeling and what the security page left open, so you know what to publish before anyone asks.

  1. 01Big scale

How safe does your data feel with us?

How safe the buyer feels their data is, on a ten-step scale. Results shows a column per step; ask it again after the buyer has read your security page to see what the page changes.

  2. 03Yes / No

Did our security page answer your questions?

Asks whether your security page answered the buyer's questions. Select No in Results to read what those buyers wrote in the confidence question, a list of what to add to the page.

  3. 09Text

What would raise your confidence in our security?

An open question for what would raise the buyer's confidence. Each answer gets a theme and a type, so you can filter for the documents or controls buyers expect and can't find.

What the buyer requires

Certifications, data location, controls and a signed agreement are the requirements that decide whether a deal can move.

  1. 02Multiple choice

Which certifications matter to your organization?

Lets buyers pick every certification their organization asks for. The bars show which ones come up in your deals, which helps you decide what to work toward next.

  2. 06Multiple choice

Where should your data be stored?

One choice for where data should be stored. The donut shows the share for each region, an input when you consider hosting in another region.

  3. 07Multiple choice

Which controls do you expect from a vendor?

Lets buyers pick every control they expect, from two-factor login to retention settings. The bars show which controls your buyers take for granted and which are rare asks.

  4. 10Yes / No

Do you need a signed agreement before you can use us?

Asks whether a signed agreement is needed before the buyer can start. The share of Yes tells you how many deals need legal work before onboarding, so plan time for it.

The security review

Ask these once the review is complete, so the answers describe the whole process from questionnaire to agreement.

  1. 04Customer effort

How easy was our security review process to get through?

A customer effort score for the whole review process. Ask it once the review is complete; low scores point to slow replies or documents the buyer had to chase.

  2. 05Ruler

How many days did the security review take on your side?

Days the review took on the buyer's side, on a ruler up to sixty. The median and the middle half show how long to plan for in your sales forecast.

  3. 08Stars

How clear was our data processing agreement?

Five stars for how clear your data processing agreement was. A low average is a reason to put a plain summary in front of the legal text.

  4. 11Mood dial

How did the security questionnaire process feel?

A mood dial for how the questionnaire process felt. Results shows the faces with each share, a quick check on whether your answers and turnaround left a good impression.

Documents and signatures

Keep these for buyers who are ready to exchange documents, so files and contacts reach your team in one place.

  1. 12Contact

Who should we send the security documents to?

Collects the name and email of the person who should receive your security documents. Results lists the contacts in a table, so sales can send the pack the same day.

  2. 13File upload

    Upload your security questionnaire

The buyer uploads their own questionnaire with the answer. Files arrive in a gallery in Results and with the response in the inbox, so your team picks them up without an email thread. File upload is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free.

  3. 14Signature

    Sign the data processing agreement

The buyer signs on screen to accept the data processing agreement. Signatures arrive in the gallery; check with your legal team that this fits your contract process. Signature is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free.

Tips for asking about security and compliance

Small choices that get honest, useful answers.

  1. 01

    Ask during the evaluation

Send the requirement questions by link while the buyer is still choosing, so sales can answer the gaps before procurement starts.

  2. 02

    Publish answers before the questionnaire

Use the answers to the security page question to add what buyers ask about most, so fewer buyers need to send a questionnaire.

  3. 03

    Give document requests an owner

Assign each contact and uploaded questionnaire to one person in the inbox, with a status, so no buyer waits on a shared mailbox.

  4. 04

Ask only what you can act on

Leave out certifications and regions you have no plans for, so the question doesn't promise more than your roadmap holds.
