Gift questions that make your store easier to give from
Ask shoppers who the gift was for, how they chose it and how the wrapping and delivery went. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What gift shopping survey questions tell you
Gift shopping survey questions ask shoppers who they bought for, what the occasion was, how they chose and whether the wrapping and delivery did the job. A gift buyer judges your store on someone else's reaction and a fixed date, and these answers show what would bring them back for the next birthday or holiday.
Ask about choosing and budget on the order confirmation page, and about the wrapping and the reaction a week or two after delivery, by email or link. Use logic after the question about who the order was for, so shoppers buying for themselves skip the rest, and keep each survey to four or five questions.
Each written answer gets a category, a theme, a type such as idea or complaint, and a sentiment, so requests for a gift guide or a product you don't sell are easy to filter. The inbox gives every response an owner, so a late gift reaches support the same day.

The 13 gifts and gift cards questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
Who and what the gift was for
Ask these at checkout to learn who your gift buyers shop for, on which occasions and with what budget.
- 01Multiple choice
Who was this order for?
Who the order was for, from the shopper to a coworker. Put it first and use logic to skip the gift questions for shoppers buying for themselves. The donut shows the share for each.
- 04Dropdown
What was the occasion?
The occasion, from a birthday to a thank you. Results shows the share of each, a guide for which gift guides and wrapping to promote at which time of year.
- 11Slider
What did you plan to spend on this gift?
The planned budget on a slider. Results shows the median and the middle half, which tells you where to set the price bands in a gift finder.
- 05Multiple choice
How did you decide what to buy?
How the shopper chose, from a wish they were told to a guess. A large share who guessed tells you a gift guide or a gift card would help.
Wrapping, delivery and the reaction
Ask these after the gift is given, to see whether the parts a gift depends on did their job.
- 02Yes / No
Did you add gift wrapping?
A yes or no on gift wrapping. Use logic to show the wrapping rating only after a Yes, and compare the share over the holiday season with the period before.
- 06Stars
How would you rate the gift wrapping?
A star rating for the wrapping. Results shows the average and the share who gave four or more. Ask it after delivery, and keep in mind that a shopper who shipped straight to the recipient may not have seen it.
- 08Customer effort
How easy was it to send the order to a different address?
A customer effort score for shipping to an address other than the shopper's. A low average points at the checkout step for a second address or a gift message.
- 12Date
When does the gift need to arrive?
The date the gift needs to arrive, picked on a calendar. Ask it at checkout. Results shows the picked dates, so you can see which weeks need extra delivery capacity.
- 07Emoji
How did the person react when they opened it?
A row of faces for the recipient's reaction, as the shopper saw it. Ask it a week or two after the occasion. Results shows each face's share, the closest you get to the recipient's verdict.
What would make gifting easier
End with the ideas and trade-offs, before you build a gift guide or change your wrapping offer.
- 03Multiple choice
What would make gift shopping here easier?
Shoppers pick every change that would help, from a gift finder by budget to delivery straight to the recipient. Bars show each share, a ranked list for your next round of gift features.
- 13This or that
When buying a gift you would rather
Two pairs: a gift card or the item itself, and wrapped or wrap it yourself. The split bar per pair shows whether to promote gift cards and paid wrapping.
- 09Text
What should our gift guide include?
An open question for ideas. Each answer arrives typed as an idea with a theme, so suggestions for budgets, recipients or occasions are easy to group into your next guide.
- 10Text
Which gift did you wish we sold?
An open question for gifts you don't stock. Filter by theme to count the requests before your next buying round, and compare them with the occasions shoppers named.
Tips for asking about gifts and gift cards
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask who the gift is for first
Put the question about who the order was for at the start, and use logic so shoppers buying for themselves skip the gift questions.
- 02
Ask about the reaction later
Send the reaction and wrapping questions a week or two after delivery, once the gift has been opened.
- 03
Plan around the busy weeks
Run the survey before and after your biggest gifting season, and compare each Results card with the period before.
- 04
Follow up on late gifts at once
Give every late or damaged gift an owner in the inbox. A gift that misses its date needs a reply the same day.
