Usertick
Copy feedback survey template

Get copy feedback your writers can act on

Four questions to send with each draft: how well the copy matches the brand voice, how clear it is for the audience, how many rounds are left and which lines to change. Usertick reads every written answer and files it under quality of work or scope.

What this copy feedback survey tells you

A copywriting feedback survey replaces a page of scattered comments with answers a writer can act on. This template asks four questions in under a minute: a 1 to 10 score for brand voice, a clarity rating for the audience, how many more rounds the client expects, and which lines to change and why.

It is written to go out with each draft, as a link next to the document or in the email that delivers it, so the client answers while reading. Usertick can also send it to the client's reviewers, with a button that opens the survey, and it runs as a conversation, one question at a time.

Each answer to the last question is read as it arrives and filed under a category such as quality of work or scope and changes, with a type and an urgency. Results shows the voice score as an average with a column per step, the clarity rating with the share who gave 4 or 5, and the share expecting each number of rounds, each compared with the period before.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Big scale

How well does the copy match your brand voice?

Why ask it
Voice is where copy feedback gets vague. A 1 to 10 scale from Not at all to Exactly gives the writer a number to move between drafts.
What you learn
The average on the 1 to 10 scale and a column per step, compared with the period before, so you can see whether the voice score climbs from the first draft to the last.
Make it yours
Link the client's brand voice guide next to the survey, so every reviewer scores against the same reference.
Question 2 of 4 · Stars

How clear is it for your audience?

Why ask it
Copy can sound right to the brand team and still confuse the people it is written for. A separate clarity rating keeps the reader in view.
What you learn
The average on the 1 to 5 scale, a bar per rating and the share who rated 4 or higher. Select the low ratings to see which lines those reviewers flagged.
Make it yours
Name the audience in the label, such as How clear is it for first-time buyers?, when the draft is written for one group.
Question 3 of 4 · Multiple choice

How many more rounds do you expect?

Why ask it
It sets expectations for the schedule and the budget. An answer of More than two on a second draft is a cue to talk about scope before the rounds in the contract run out.
What you learn
A donut with the share and count for each answer, with stacked shares over time, so you can see whether drafts reach ready sooner as the project goes on.
Make it yours
Match the options to the rounds in your contract, and talk to the client the day someone picks More than two.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

Which lines should we change, and why?

Why ask it
Asking for the lines and the reason in one question gives the writer specific edits with the thinking behind them, which tracked changes alone rarely carry.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, files it under a category and a theme from your list, marks it as an idea, a complaint or a question, and flags the urgent ones, in any language.
Make it yours
Ask reviewers to quote the line first, so each answer maps to a place in the document.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Send it with every draft

Put the link in the same email or comment that delivers the draft, so the review and the survey happen in one sitting.

  2. 02

    Tag each draft

Add a tag to the link, such as ?utm_source=draft-2, so Google Sheets, webhooks and workflows keep the draft number with each answer.

  3. 03

    Collect one answer per reviewer

Ask each reviewer to answer on their own. Merged feedback hides disagreements the writer needs to know about.

  4. 04

Watch the voice score across drafts

A voice score that stays flat from draft to draft points to the brief. Revisit the brand voice inputs with the client before writing the third draft.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Send it to each reviewer or share one link. When Usertick sends it, each answer is tied to its contact, so you know whose view each line edit is.

Read the line edits first, then book a short call about the voice before the next draft. A low score with few line edits usually means the brief needs work before the lines do.
