Workshop feedback template

Learn what worked in the room, and what to run next

Four questions to share at the end of a session: how satisfied attendees were, whether the mix of practice and explanation was right, which topics to cover next and what they will do differently. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this workshop feedback survey tells you

A workshop feedback survey asks attendees about the session before they leave. This template takes about a minute: a satisfaction rating, whether the balance between hands-on practice and explanation was right, a ranking of four topics for the next session, and what they will do differently after today.

It is written for the end of a live session, shared as a QR code on the last slide or as a link in the chat of an online workshop. It suits training days, professional development sessions and short courses for adults, and the same template can go out by email afterward or open as a conversation that asks one question at a time.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your education list, such as course content or teaching and tutors, with a type and a sentiment. Results shows the satisfaction rating and the share who rated it 4 or higher, the split on practice and explanation, and the average place of each topic in the ranking, each against the period before.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Stars

Overall, how satisfied were you with the workshop?

Why ask it
One rating gives every session a number you can compare, so you see which workshops, formats or facilitators land best.
What you learn
The average out of 5, a bar per rating and the share who rated the workshop 4 or higher, against the period before.
Make it yours
Keep it first and required, so even a quick answer leaves a score for the session.
Question 2 of 4 · Multiple choice

The balance between hands-on practice and explanation was

Why ask it
The mix of doing and listening is the part of a workshop you can change most easily, and attendees can judge it in one tap.
What you learn
A donut with the share and count for too much practice, about right and too much explanation. Select one to filter the page and read what those attendees will do differently.
Make it yours
Change the options when your format differs, for example Too much group discussion for sessions built around talk.
Question 3 of 4 · Ranking · Optional

Rank the topics you'd like covered next

Why ask it
Asking attendees to rank the next topics turns a vague wish for more into an order you can plan from.
What you learn
Results shows the average place of each topic, so the one most attendees put first leads the list.
Make it yours
Replace the four topics with sessions you could really run next, and keep the list short so ranking stays quick on a phone.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

What will you do differently after today?

Why ask it
Asking what attendees will change after today tests whether the session was practical. Specific answers show the workshop gave them something to use.
What you learn
Usertick gives each answer a sentiment and a theme, and groups the answers into up to 8 themes with their trends, so you see which parts of the session people plan to use.
Make it yours
Read the answers before the next run and build an example around the change people mention most.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Ask before people leave

Show the QR code in the last five minutes and give the room time to scan it. Answers given in the room are about the session that just ended.

  2. 02

    Use one survey per workshop

Results doesn't split answers by a link tag, so give each workshop its own copy of the survey when you want to compare them.

  3. 03

    Keep the topic list current

Update the ranking options after each run, dropping topics you have covered and adding the ones attendees asked for.

  4. 04

    Send answers to the facilitator

On every plan, a workflow adds each answer to a Google Sheet or posts it to Slack or Microsoft Teams, so the facilitator reads them the same day.
