Usertick
Event app survey template

See which parts of your event app worked, and what attendees wish it did

Three questions for the last day of your event: how easy the app was to use, a rating for the agenda, the venue map, messaging and notifications, and what attendees wish it could do. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this event app survey tells you

An event app feedback survey asks attendees how the app you gave them held up during the event, in hallways, between sessions and on a weak signal. This template takes about a minute: an effort score for using the app, a rating for four of its parts and one open question about what it should do next time.

It is written for an email on the last day of the event, sent by Usertick to your attendee list with the first question inside the message. The same template also runs as a link you post in the app's announcements, or as a popup in the browser version of the app, since the Usertick script works in web apps on your own domain. A mobile app can open the survey's link.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category such as app and schedule, with a type and an urgency, so bugs and feature ideas land in separate lists. Results shows the share who found the app easy, a heat map of the four parts with their averages, and the themes of what attendees asked for.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Customer effort

How easy was the event app to use?

Why ask it
An event app has to work in a crowded hallway, between sessions, with one hand. An effort scale from very difficult to very easy shows whether it did, which a star rating blurs.
What you learn
The average on the 1 to 7 scale and the share who found it easy, with a hard-to-easy bar, compared with the period before, so a new app vendor shows in the numbers.
Make it yours
Keep it first, so attendees can tap their score inside the email and open the rest with it kept.
Question 2 of 3 · Matrix · Optional

How would you rate the following?

Why ask it
Attendees use the agenda, the map, messaging and notifications for different jobs. Rating them apart shows which feature to fix or drop before you renew the app contract.
What you learn
A heat map with a row for each feature and its average, so a well-used agenda with a confusing map stands out. On phones the grid shows one row at a time.
Make it yours
Replace the rows with the features your app had, such as lead scanning or live polls, and add a Not applicable column for attendees who never used one.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What do you wish the app could do?

Why ask it
Attendees tell you what they tried to do and couldn't, which becomes the wish list for next year's app or vendor.
What you learn
Each answer with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends. Usertick marks each answer as a bug, an idea or a complaint and flags the urgent ones.
Make it yours
Send the bugs to your app vendor and the ideas to whoever writes next year's requirements.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Ask on the last afternoon

Send it on the final afternoon, while the app is still on attendees' phones and the problems are fresh. Schedule the send before the event starts, up to 30 days ahead.

  2. 02

Post the link in the app

Put a link copy of the survey in an app announcement or as the last item on the agenda, so attendees who never open your emails see it too.

  3. 03

Route bugs to the right team

On every plan, a workflow posts every answer marked as a bug to Slack or Microsoft Teams. From Starter, it can also open a Jira or Linear issue for the team that builds or manages the app.

  4. 04

    Ask who never opened it

Add a first question asking whether they used the app, with a skip so those who didn't go to an open question about why. Their reasons say as much about the app as the ratings do.

Frequently asked questions

When the app runs in a browser on your own domain, the Usertick script works there like on any website, as a popup. Inside a mobile app, post the survey link, and it opens the hosted survey page.

Select a low rating on that row in Results to filter the page to those attendees, then read what they wish the app could do. The answers usually name the step that failed.

Yes, with a first question that asks whether they used it and a skip for those who didn't. Why they never opened it can matter more for next year than the ratings from those who did.
