Usertick
Coffee shop survey template

Check the coffee, the wait and the seats, in about 30 seconds

Four quick questions from a QR code on the counter or the receipt: how the coffee was, how long the wait was, whether there was a seat and whether guests will be back this week. Add an open question for comments, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this coffee shop survey tells you

A coffee shop customer survey has to fit between the order and the first sip. This template takes about 30 seconds: a rating for the coffee, the wait on a ruler from no wait to 15 minutes or more, a yes or no on finding a seat, and how likely guests are to visit again this week.

It is written for a QR code on the counter, the cup sleeve or the receipt, which opens the survey on the guest's phone while they wait or sit down. The same link works in your loyalty emails or on your website, and Usertick can email the survey to the customers you import as contacts.

The template has no open question, so add one at the end when you want comments; Usertick then reads each written answer and files it under a category from your list, such as staff and service or delays and disruptions. Results shows the coffee rating with the share who rated 4 or higher, the median wait with its middle half, the share who found a seat and the share of each answer about coming back.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Stars

How would you rate your coffee?

Why ask it
The coffee is why guests come in, so it gets the first question. A rating from poor to excellent keeps the focus on the cup.
What you learn
The average out of 5, a bar for each rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, against the period before. Select the low ratings to see whether those guests also waited longest.
Make it yours
When you change beans or a supplier, leave the survey as it is for a few weeks, so the comparison with the period before shows the effect.
Question 2 of 4 · Ruler · Optional

How long did you wait for your order?

Why ask it
The morning line decides whether a commuter waits or walks to the next shop. Minutes on a ruler show how long the wait feels to guests.
What you learn
The median wait and the middle half of answers, compared with the period before, so you see the typical wait and how long the slow mornings get.
Make it yours
Keep the open top end at 15 minutes or more, and check the median after any change to staffing or the order flow.
Question 3 of 4 · Yes / No

Was it easy to find a seat?

Why ask it
Guests who want to sit and stay judge a coffee shop by whether there is a table. A yes or no tells you when the space is the limit.
What you learn
The share who said yes, against the period before. Select No to see how those guests answered about coming back this week.
Make it yours
If most of your trade is takeout, swap it for a question about pickup, such as whether the order was ready when the guest arrived.
Question 4 of 4 · Multiple choice

How likely are you to visit again this week?

Why ask it
Coffee shops live on regulars, and a visit this week is a near-term signal you can move. Four plain options are easier to answer than a score.
What you learn
A donut with the share and count of each answer, from Very likely to Unlikely, and the shares over time. Select Unlikely to see what those guests said about the coffee, the wait and the seats.
Make it yours
Add skip logic so Unlikely goes to a short open question about why, and the answer tells you what would bring them back.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

How would you rate your coffee?

The average rating and the share who gave 4 or 5 stars, against the period before.

How likely are you to visit again this week?

The share of each answer with its count. Select an answer to narrow the whole page to those people and read what else they said.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Put the code where guests wait

Print the QR code on the counter by the pickup point, on the cup sleeve or on the receipt, where guests look while the coffee is made.

  2. 02

    Keep it to 30 seconds

Add a question only when you remove one. Guests answer between ordering and their first sip.

  3. 03

    Use one survey per shop

If you run more than one location, duplicate the survey for each one, so Results shows each shop on its own.

  4. 04

    Add one optional open question

A last question such as What would make you visit more often? gives you reasons in guests' own words, and Usertick reads and sorts each answer.
