Room service survey template

Hear how room service went, while the tray is still in the room

Four questions for guests who ordered to their room: overall satisfaction, the minutes it took to arrive, a rating for the food and what to add to the menu. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this room service survey tells you

A room service survey asks about one order while the guest is still in the room with it. This template takes under a minute: a satisfaction score for the order, the minutes it took to arrive on a ruler up to 60 or more, a separate rating for the food and one open question about the menu.

It is written for a link: print its QR code on the tray card or the menu, or open the link on the in-room tablet, so guests can answer from the bed or the desk. If your hotel messages guests after an order, put the survey link in the message your own system sends; Usertick doesn't send phone messages and has no trigger from your ordering system.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as staff and service or delays and disruptions, with a type and an urgency. Results shows the order and food scores with the share who rated 4 or higher, and the median delivery time with its middle half, each against the period before.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Stars

How satisfied were you with your room service order?

Why ask it
One score for the whole order covers what the food rating can't: the phone call, the delivery, the tray setup and the pickup.
What you learn
The average out of 5, a bar for each rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, compared with the period before.
Make it yours
Read it beside the food rating. When the order scores lower than the food, the problem is the service around the food.
Question 2 of 4 · Ruler · Optional

How long did it take to arrive?

Why ask it
Guests remember how long they waited better than the time quoted on the phone. Minutes on a ruler give you a number to set against the time the kitchen promises.
What you learn
The median delivery time and the middle half of answers, so you see the typical wait and how long the slow orders took, against the period before.
Make it yours
Keep the open top end at 60 minutes or more, and compare the median with the time your team quotes when guests order.
Question 3 of 4 · Stars

How would you rate the food?

Why ask it
A late tray and a dull dish are different problems with different owners. A separate food score gives the kitchen a number of its own.
What you learn
The average out of 5, a bar for each rating and the share who rated the food 4 or higher. Select the low ratings to see whether those orders also took longest to arrive.
Make it yours
Share this score with the kitchen each week, apart from the overall one, so the chef sees the food on its own.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

What would you add to the menu, or change?

Why ask it
Guests ordering to the room often want something the menu doesn't offer, such as a late-night snack or a lighter breakfast. Asking directly turns those wishes into a list.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer, files it under a theme from your list and marks it as an idea, a complaint or praise. Results lists the answers by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, so repeated requests rise to the top.
Make it yours
Review the ideas each month before you reprint the menu, and mark the ones you add as done in the inbox.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Put the code on the tray

Print the QR code on the tray card or the bill holder that goes up with every order, so each guest who orders sees it with the food.

  2. 02

    Keep it to one order

Ask about the order the guest just had. A guest satisfaction survey after check-out covers the rest of the stay.

  3. 03

    Hear about slow nights early

On every plan, set an alert for when the order score drops over a few days, so the evening team hears about it while guests are still in house.

  4. 04

    Reply before the guest leaves

Give complaints an owner in the inbox while the guest is still at the hotel, so the front desk can make it right before check-out.
