Hotel breakfast survey template

Find out how breakfast went, on the morning it was served

Three questions for guests after breakfast: how satisfied they were this morning, how choice, freshness, service and opening hours rated, and what was missing. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this hotel breakfast survey tells you

A hotel breakfast survey asks about this morning's breakfast while the guest can still picture the buffet. This template takes about a minute: a satisfaction score, a grid for choice, freshness, service and opening hours, and one open question about what was missing.

It is written for a link guests open in the morning: a QR code on the breakfast tables or at the restaurant door, the in-room screen, or the morning message your own system sends to in-house guests. Usertick doesn't send phone messages, but it can email the survey to the guests you import as contacts at a time you schedule.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as staff and service or room and facilities, with a type and an urgency. Results shows the breakfast score with the share who rated 4 or higher and a heat map for choice, freshness, service and hours, each against the period before.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Stars

How satisfied were you with breakfast this morning?

Why ask it
One score for this morning gives the breakfast team a number to track day by day. The words this morning keep guests on today's breakfast, even on the fourth day of a stay.
What you learn
The average out of 5, a bar for each rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, compared with the period before. Select the low ratings to filter the page to unhappy guests and read what they missed.
Make it yours
Keep it first and required, so even a guest who answers one question gives you the score.
Question 2 of 3 · Matrix · Optional

How would you rate the following?

Why ask it
Breakfast complaints come from different places: too little choice, food that sat out too long, slow coffee refills or a kitchen that closes before late risers come down. Four rows tell you which one it is.
What you learn
A heat map with a row for each part and its average. When opening hours score below freshness, look at the clock before you change the menu.
Make it yours
Add a row for what guests talk about, such as the coffee or the egg station, and keep the grid short, since on a phone it shows one row at a time.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What was missing from breakfast?

Why ask it
Guests notice what wasn't there: oat milk, fresh fruit late in the service, a hot dish for children. Asking what was missing gets a shopping list in their words.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer, files it under a theme from your list and marks it as an idea, a complaint or praise. Results lists the answers by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, so an item asked for again and again rises to the top.
Make it yours
Go through these answers with the kitchen each week, and when you add something guests asked for, say so on the breakfast card.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Put the code on the tables

Print the QR code on a small card on each table or by the restaurant door, where guests finish their coffee. The code points to the live survey, so you can edit a question without reprinting.

  2. 02

Ask every morning of the stay

A guest staying four nights can answer each morning. Their answers show whether breakfast holds up from the first day to the last.

  3. 03

Read the score at the briefing

Share the previous day's score and comments with the breakfast team at the start of the shift, so a fix happens the next morning.

  4. 04

    Send complaints to the manager

On every plan, a workflow posts ratings of 1 or 2 to Slack or Microsoft Teams, so the restaurant manager can speak to the guest before they leave the hotel for the day.
