Usertick
App accessibility survey template

Find the screens that get in the way, for users of accessibility settings

Three questions linked from your app's accessibility settings: which settings users rely on, how well the app works with them and which screen gives them trouble. Usertick reads every written answer and groups the screens users name.

What this app accessibility survey tells you

An app accessibility survey asks the users who depend on larger text, a screen reader or reduced motion how well your app works for them. This template takes under a minute: the settings they use, a 5-star rating for how the app works with them, and an open question that names the screen giving them trouble.

It is written as a link in your app's accessibility settings, where the people it is for will look. The link opens the hosted survey page, so it works from a phone app, from your web app's settings page and from your help center, and it can go by email to users who contacted you about accessibility. Add a tag such as ?utm_source=settings to keep where each answer came from for workflows and Google Sheets.

Usertick reads each written answer, files it under a category such as ease of use with a theme from your list, and marks it as a bug, an idea or a complaint. Results shows bars for each setting, the average rating with the share who rated 4 or higher, and every screen users named, against the period before.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Multiple choice · Optional

Which of these settings do you use?

Why ask it
Each setting breaks different things, from text that no longer fits to buttons a screen reader can't name, so knowing which ones users rely on points your testing at the right setting.
What you learn
Bars show the share and count of each setting, with every typed Other answer listed. Select VoiceOver or TalkBack to read the ratings and screens of screen reader users.
Make it yours
Ask about settings and screens only, and leave out questions about health or conditions, which Usertick's terms don't allow.
Question 2 of 3 · Stars

How well does the app work with them?

Why ask it
One rating turns scattered reports into a number your team can track release by release. It is the one required question, so every response has a score.
What you learn
Results shows the average, a bar per rating and the share who rated 4 or higher. Select a setting on question 1 to see how well the app works with it.
Make it yours
Compare the share who rated 4 or higher with the period before after each release that changes layouts or navigation.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

Which screen gives you trouble?

Why ask it
Users who rely on these settings meet problems your team may never see in testing, and one named screen gives an engineer a place to start.
What you learn
Each answer appears with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, and up to 8 themes show with their trends, so a screen named by several users stands out.
Make it yours
Route answers marked as a bug to Jira or Linear with a workflow (every plan), so each named screen becomes a fix with an owner.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Link it where users look

Put the link at the bottom of your app's accessibility settings and on your accessibility help page, so the people who need it find it without searching.

  2. 02

Test the survey with the settings

Keep the questions short and the open one optional, and try the survey page with larger text and a screen reader before you share the link.

  3. 03

Reply to the people who wrote

Add an optional Contact question for users who want to hear when a fix ships, and give each of those responses an owner in the inbox.

  4. 04

    Fix screens in order

Fix the screen named most first, then check the rating for its setting in the next period before you move to the next one.
