Usertick
App feature request template

Collect feature ideas from users, with how often they would use them

Three questions for your app's help menu or a side button: the idea in the user's words, how often they would use it and how they manage today. Usertick reads every idea, groups it by theme and marks the ones that are really bugs.

What this app feature request form tells you

An app feature request form gives users a place to suggest what the app should do next, with enough context to rank the ideas. This template asks three questions in about a minute: the idea itself, how often the user would use it, and how they handle the same task today, which tells you what your feature has to beat.

It is written to stay available: on a side button in your web app, or behind a Suggest a feature link in your phone app's settings or help menu that opens the survey's link. Set the website survey to show on every visit, so people can send more than one idea. It also works by email, sent to a list of active users before you plan a release, with a button that opens the survey.

Usertick reads each idea as it arrives, files it under a category such as features and gaps or integrations with a theme from your list, and marks it as an idea, a bug or a question. Results lists every answer with its sentiment and theme, up to 8 themes with their trends, and a donut of how often each idea would be used.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Text

What would you like to see in the app?

Why ask it
The idea comes first and in the user's own words, so nobody has to squeeze it into a list you wrote. It is the only required question, so a quick suggestion still counts.
What you learn
Each idea appears with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, and up to 8 themes show with their trends, so the requests that keep coming back rise above the ones asked once.
Make it yours
Add a placeholder with an example, such as Export to PDF from the report screen, to show the level of detail you want.
Question 2 of 3 · Dropdown · Optional

How often would you use it?

Why ask it
Frequency separates a feature people would open every day from one they would use twice a year, which matters more in planning than how loudly it was asked for.
What you learn
A donut shows the share and count of each frequency. Select Every day to filter the whole page to those users and read only the ideas they would use daily.
Make it yours
Read the ideas under Every day and Every week first when you rank the backlog.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

How do you handle this today?

Why ask it
The current workaround shows what your feature has to beat, whether that is a spreadsheet, another app or doing it by hand, and how painful the gap really is.
What you learn
Each answer appears with its sentiment and theme. A workaround that names another app often becomes a theme of its own, which shows where users go when your app falls short.
Make it yours
When many users name the same app, look at what that app does well before you design your version.

What the answers show

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Keep it one tap away

Put the link in your phone app's help menu or settings and a side button in your web app, so users find it the moment an idea comes up.

  2. 02

Let people send more than one

Set the website survey to show on every visit instead of until answered, so a user with a second idea can send it too.

  3. 03

    Close the loop

Give each idea an owner and a status in the inbox, and tell users when a requested feature ships, for example in your release notes.

  4. 04

    Send ideas where you plan

On every plan, a workflow turns an idea into a Jira or Linear issue. A workflow can also add each one to a Google Sheet or post it to Slack.

Frequently asked questions

In the settings or help menu, behind a link such as Suggest a feature that opens the survey's link. Usertick doesn't run inside a phone app, so the app opens the hosted survey page instead.

Group the ideas by theme in Results, then weigh each theme by how often users say they would use it. A theme that many daily users ask for makes a stronger case than a single detailed request.

Yes, on the website. Set the survey to show on every visit instead of until answered, so the side button stays ready for the next idea.

Yes, when you know who they are. In a web app, identify adds the signed-in user's email to each response; on a link, add an optional Contact question for users who want an update.

Usertick marks each answer with a type, so filter the inbox by Bug and route those to the team that fixes them, with a workflow to Jira or Linear.
