Wrapping up a project survey questions

Wrap-up questions that close this project and open the next one

Ask clients how the finished project rates, whether it reached its goal and what they still need from you. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.

What end of project survey questions tell you

End of project survey questions ask clients to look back on the whole project: how the finished work, timeline and budget rate, whether it reached the goal set at the start, what they would change and what they still need from you. The wrap up is the last moment the whole client team remembers the project well, and the next brief often starts there.

Send the survey a week or two after the final sign off, once the work is live or handed over. Pick five or six questions: the overall rating, the grid, the goal check, the open question on what went wrong early and what happens next. Send it from Usertick to everyone on the client side, or put the link in your wrap up email.

Each written answer gets a theme and a sentiment, so lessons from one project reach the next. Give each response an owner in the inbox, and turn every request for files, training or support into a task before the project closes.

The 13 wrapping up a project questions, with when to ask each

Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.

How the project went

Start with the overall rating and the grid, then whether the project reached its goal, so the score comes with its reason.

  1. 01Stars

How would you rate the project now that it is finished?

A star rating for the finished project. It can be answered inside the email, and comparing the average across projects shows how your work rates over a year.

  2. 02Matrix

Rate the finished project on each

Rates what was delivered, the timeline, the budget and the way you worked in one grid. The heat map shows whether a low overall score comes from the work or the process.

  3. 03Yes / No

Did the project reach the goal you set at the start?

A yes or no on whether the project reached the goal set at the start. Select No in Results to read what those clients would change next time.

  4. 07Big scale

How well did the finished work match what you imagined?

How well the finished work matched what the client imagined, on a scale of 1 to 10. Read it with the goal check to see whether expectations or results fell short.

  5. 09Ruler

How many weeks did the project run in the end?

How many weeks the project ran in the end, on a ruler. Compare the answer with your plan to see how far timelines stretch.

Lessons for next time

These questions turn the project into lessons: what to change, what went wrong early, how the sign off went and what stuck with the client.

  1. 04Multiple choice

What would you change if you ran this project again?

Names the one change the client would make if they ran the project again. A rising share for a tighter scope or an earlier start tells you what to raise at your next kickoff.

  2. 08Text

What did we get wrong early that cost us time?

Asks what went wrong early that cost time. Bring these answers to your next kickoff, since early mistakes cost the most to fix later.

  3. 05Text

What is the one thing you will remember about this project?

The open question on what the client will remember. Positive answers make good quotes for a case study, once you have the client's permission.

  4. 10Customer effort

How easy was the final sign off?

A customer effort score for the final sign off. A low share who found it easy points to too many approvers or unclear acceptance criteria.

What comes next

Ask what the client still needs and what happens to the work, so the wrap up leads to support, a check in or the next project.

  1. 06Multiple choice

What do you still need from us?

Lets the client tick everything they still need, from files and assets to a plan for what is next. Turn each answer into a task before you close the project.

  2. 11Dropdown

What happens next with this work?

What happens next with the work, from going live now to nothing for now. Plan a check in for work that goes live later or moves to another team.

  3. 12Yes / No

Would you start another project with us this year?

A yes or no on starting another project with you this year. Pass every Yes to whoever leads new business while the project is fresh.

  4. 13Date

When should we check in on the results?

The date the client wants to check in on results, picked on a calendar. Book it before you close the project, so the results conversation happens.
