Usertick
Keynote feedback survey template

Hear how the keynote landed, while the audience is still in the room

Four questions for a QR code on the closing slide: a rating for the keynote and the speaker, whether the length worked and the one thing people will take away. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this keynote feedback survey tells you

A keynote feedback survey asks the audience about the talk that opened or closed your event, the one most attendees saw. This template takes under a minute: a rating for the keynote, a rating for the speaker, a check on the length and one takeaway in their own words.

It is written for a QR code on the closing slide, scanned as the applause ends and answered on attendees' phones before they leave the hall. The same link also works in a message from your event app, in the stream chat for remote viewers or under the recording, and the template can run as a popup on the keynote page of your event website.

Every takeaway is read as it arrives and given a theme and a sentiment, so you can see which ideas stuck. Results shows the keynote and speaker averages with the share who rated 4 or higher, and the split between too long, about right and too short.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Stars

How would you rate the keynote?

Why ask it
The keynote sets the tone for the whole event, in front of its largest audience. One score for the talk itself tells you whether the slot was worth it.
What you learn
The average out of 5, a bar for each rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, compared with the period before, so this year's keynote can be set against last year's.
Make it yours
Ask the host to point at the code before the next speaker comes on, and give the audience a minute.
Question 2 of 4 · Stars

How would you rate the speaker?

Why ask it
A famous name can carry a thin talk, and a great talk can come from a speaker few knew. Two scores show whether to book the speaker again or the topic.
What you learn
The speaker's average and the share of 4 and 5 ratings beside the keynote score, so a gap between the two stands out.
Make it yours
Send the speaker their scores and a few takeaways after the event, and use them when you brief next year's keynote.
Question 3 of 4 · Multiple choice

The length of the keynote was

Why ask it
A keynote that runs over pushes back every session after it, and a short one can leave the audience wanting the substance they came for. One tap tells you which length to book next year.
What you learn
The share for too long, about right and too short. Select Too long to see whether those attendees also rated the keynote lower.
Make it yours
Put the planned length on the agenda, and keep the question the same when you change the slot so the years compare.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

What's one thing you'll take away from it?

Why ask it
Asking for one takeaway shows whether the main message reached the room. The answers also make honest quotes for next year's event page.
What you learn
Each answer with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, so the ideas the audience repeats rise to the top.
Make it yours
Ask the speaker for the one point they meant to make, then compare it with the themes Usertick finds in the answers.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Keep the code on screen

Leave the QR code on the closing slide through the applause and the walk-off. Download it as a PNG or an SVG large enough to scan from the back rows.

  2. 02

Ask the host to mention it

A sentence from the stage, such as asking attendees to rate the keynote before the coffee break, gets phones out while people are still seated.

  3. 03

    Run one survey per keynote

Results and the inbox don't split answers by link tag, so duplicate the survey for each keynote and give each copy its own code.

  4. 04

    Ask remote viewers too

Post the same link in the stream chat. Add a question about how they watched, in the hall or online, when you want to compare the two audiences.

Frequently asked questions

Right at the end, before the audience leaves the hall. Put the QR code on the closing slide and keep it up through the applause.

Duplicate it for each keynote, so every talk has its own results and its own QR code. Results doesn't split one survey's answers by a tag on the link.
