Usertick
Budgeting tool survey template

Find out if your budget view earns its place, from the people who open it most

Three quick questions for regular users of your budgeting view: how accurate the spending categories are, how useful the view is and what they check most often. Add an open question and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this budgeting tool survey tells you

A budgeting tool survey asks the users who rely on the feature whether it gets their money right. This template asks three questions in about 25 seconds: how accurate the spending categories are, how useful the budgeting view is on a 1 to 10 scale and what they check most often.

It is written for a popup in your web banking app after a user has opened the budget view five times, so only people who know the feature answer. Website surveys run in web apps when the Usertick script is on your own domain; a mobile app can open the survey's link instead.

Results shows the accuracy rating with the share who rated 4 or higher, the usefulness average with a column per step and the share of each part people check, each against the period before. Add an open question and Usertick reads each written answer, files it under a category from your list and gives it a type, a sentiment and an urgency.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Stars

How accurate are the spending categories?

Why ask it
A budget is only as good as its categories. When groceries land under shopping or rent under transfers, users stop trusting every total on the screen.
What you learn
Results shows the average, a bar per rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, against the period before, so a change to how transactions are sorted shows up in the next period.
Make it yours
Filter to the low ratings to see what those users check most, which shows where wrong categories hurt.
Question 2 of 3 · Big scale

How useful is the budgeting view?

Why ask it
Accuracy and usefulness are separate. A view can sort every payment correctly and still not help anyone plan, and a 1 to 10 scale gives you room to see small changes.
What you learn
Results shows the average and a column for each step from 1 to 10, against the period before.
Make it yours
Note the date of each release of the view, so you can match a change in the average to the release that caused it.
Question 3 of 3 · Multiple choice

What do you check most often?

Why ask it
What users check most shows which part of the view to build on and which to put first on the screen.
What you learn
A donut shows the share and count of each answer, and over time as stacked shares, so a growing Subscriptions or Upcoming bills slice shows where attention is moving.
Make it yours
Add a write-in Other option when your view has parts the list leaves out, such as savings or debt payoff.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

How accurate are the spending categories?

The average rating and the share who gave 4 or 5 stars, against the period before.

What do you check most often?

The share of each answer with its count. Select an answer to narrow the whole page to those people and read what else they said.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Count visits with a custom event

Have your app call Usertick.trigger('budget_view_opened') each time the view opens, and set the trigger's calls needed to 5, from Starter or on 1 survey on Free. The count is kept per survey in the user's browser across visits.

  2. 02

Open it on the budget view

Target the budget page, so the popup opens while the user is looking at their categories. Add a few seconds of wait, so it doesn't cover the totals the moment the page loads.

  3. 03

    Add one open question

The template has no written question. Add an optional Which category is most often wrong? at the end, so Usertick reads the examples users give.

  4. 04

Send wrong categories to your team

On every plan, a workflow can post every accuracy rating of 1 or 2 to Slack or Microsoft Teams, so the team that sorts transactions sees each one with the user's comment.
