Usertick
Savings goals survey template

Learn whether savings goals work, a month after people set one

Three questions for users a month into a goal: whether it changed how much they save, what they are saving for and what would help them stay on track. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this savings goals survey tells you

A savings goals survey asks users whether the feature changed what they do with their money. This template asks three questions in under a minute: whether setting a goal changed how much they save, what they are saving for and what would help them stay on track.

It is written for a popup in your web banking app about a month after a user sets a goal, long enough for a payday or two to pass. Website surveys run in web apps when the Usertick script is on your own domain; a mobile app can open the survey's link instead, and the same link works in your own emails.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, with a type, a sentiment and an urgency. Results shows the share who save more, the share of each goal with the typed Other answers listed, and up to 8 themes in what people say would help, each against the period before.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Yes / No

Has setting a goal changed how much you save?

Why ask it
A goal feature earns its place when people save more with it. A plain Yes or No asked a month in tells you whether it changes anything for most users.
What you learn
Results shows the share that said yes, against the period before, so a change to reminders or automatic transfers can be judged by the next period's share.
Make it yours
Select No in Results to read what those users say would help them stay on track.
Question 2 of 3 · Multiple choice · Optional

What are you saving for?

Why ask it
What people save for decides how the feature should talk to them. A down payment and a vacation fund need different timelines, nudges and amounts.
What you learn
Bars show the share and count of each goal, since users can pick more than one, with every typed Other answer listed beside the chart, and over time as stacked shares.
Make it yours
Add the goals your users name most in the Other answers, such as a wedding or a new baby, as options of their own.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What would help you stay on track?

Why ask it
Users who are falling behind know why: a bill that came early, an amount set too high or a reminder they never saw. An open question collects those reasons in their words.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, files it under a category and a theme from your list, marks it as an idea, a complaint or a question, and flags the urgent ones, in any language. Results shows up to 8 themes with their trends.
Make it yours
Read the ideas from users who answered No first, because they show what the feature is missing for the people it doesn't help yet.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Time it to the goal date

Pass the number of days since the goal was set as a trait with Usertick.identify(), and target users where it is at least 30, from Starter. Each user then sees the survey a month in, whenever they set their goal.

  2. 02

Open it on the goal screen

Target the page that shows the goal's progress, so the popup opens while the user is already looking at how they are doing.

  3. 03

    Ask once per user

The survey shows until a user answers once. Keep that default, so people with several goals aren't asked on every visit.

  4. 04

    Leave balances out

Ask about habits and reasons, never about amounts in the account or account numbers. The three questions work without them.
