Family hotel stay survey template

Learn what makes your hotel easy for families, from the parents who stayed

Three questions for parents after a stay with children: how the children enjoyed it, how the room setup, pool and play areas, kids' menu and staff rated, and what would have made it easier. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this family hotel stay survey tells you

A family hotel stay survey asks parents what worked for their children and for them, since both decide whether the family comes back. This template takes about a minute: a face for how much the children enjoyed the stay, a grid for room setup, pool and play areas, the kids' menu and how staff treated the children, and one open question for the parents.

It is written for an email after check-out, sent by Usertick to the adult who made a booking with children, where the first question can be answered inside the message. The questions are for parents, since Usertick's terms don't allow surveys aimed at people under 16. The same survey runs as a link in your own post-stay email or as a QR code on the card you give parents at check-out.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as room and facilities or staff and service, with a type and an urgency, so a safety concern is flagged. Results shows the share of each face, a heat map for the four family parts of the stay and the parents' answers by theme, each against the period before.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 ยท Emoji

How did your children enjoy the stay?

Why ask it
Parents judge a family stay by their children first. A face is quick to answer and hard to overthink, and it sits inside the email as a one-tap start.
What you learn
The faces from unhappy to happy, each with its share, against the period before. Select the unhappy faces to filter the page and read what those parents wrote.
Make it yours
If families with toddlers and teenagers both stay with you, add a question for the children's age range, so you can see which ages enjoyed it most.
Question 2 of 3 ยท Matrix ยท Optional

How would you rate the following for families?

Why ask it
Families need different things from a hotel: a cot or connecting rooms, a pool that is safe for small children, food children will eat and staff who are patient with them. Four rows show where you fall short.
What you learn
A heat map with a row for each part and its average, so a weak kids' menu or a low score for the pool and play areas stands out.
Make it yours
Turn on the Not applicable column for families who didn't use the pool or eat in the restaurant, so their answers stay out of those averages.
Question 3 of 3 ยท Text ยท Optional

What would have made the stay easier for you as parents?

Why ask it
Parents notice what made the stay harder: no bottle warmer, breakfast that ends before children wake up, no high chairs left. Asking what would have made it easier gets that list in their words.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, files it under a category and a theme, marks it as an idea, a complaint or praise, and flags urgent ones such as a safety concern at the pool. Results lists the answers by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends.
Make it yours
Share the ideas with every department, since family requests touch housekeeping, the restaurant and the front desk.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Send it to the adult who booked

Import the bookings with children as contacts, using the email of the adult who booked, and keep the questions written for parents.

  2. 02

Send it within a few days

Send the survey a day or two after check-out, once the family is home and the trip is still fresh.

  3. 03

    Fix safety issues first

On every plan, a workflow posts urgent answers to Slack or Microsoft Teams, so a pool gate that doesn't close or a broken cot reaches maintenance the same day.

  4. 04

Set up family rooms before arrival

Use the answers to define a standard family setup, such as a cot, a step stool and a night light, ready when families check in.
