Family stay questions that show what parents need from a hotel
Ask parents about the room, sleep, meals and how welcome their children felt. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What family stay survey questions tell you
Family hotel survey questions ask parents how the stay worked for everyone: whether the room was big enough, how the family slept, what the children used, how the kids meals went and how welcome staff made the children feel. Parents plan around school vacations and often book the same kind of trip each year, so a family that felt welcome is likely to book the next vacation with you too.
Send the survey to the parent who booked, the day after checkout, once the family is home. Ask parents only: these questions ask for a parent's view of the children's stay, and none of them are meant for the children themselves. Pick four or five: the family grid, the room size, how the children found it and one open question.
Each written answer gets a category, a theme, a sentiment and an urgency, so a crib that never came reaches housekeeping, and the items parents always pack become a list of things to keep at the desk.

The 14 staying with kids questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
How the family stay went
Start with the family grid and the parent's view of how the children found it, then the welcome from staff.
- 12Matrix
Rate each thing for families
Rates room size, the pool, the kids menu and staff with children on one grid. The heat map shows which part of the family stay pulls the score down, with an average per row.
- 07Emoji
How did the children find the stay?
The parent's view of how the children found the stay, on a row of faces. Results shows each face with its share, compared with the period before.
- 06Stars
How welcome did staff make your children feel?
A star rating for how welcome staff made the children feel. Results shows the average and the share who rated 4 or higher, a measure to share with every team.
The room and sleep
Two questions on space and sleep, which show whether families need bigger rooms or connecting ones.
- 01Yes / No
Was the room big enough for everyone?
A yes or no on whether the room was big enough for everyone. Select No in Results to see which family sizes ran out of space and what those parents wrote.
- 08Big scale
How well did you all sleep in one room?
How well the family slept in one room, from 1 to 10. Read it beside the room size question; a low score points to connecting rooms or blackout curtains.
Food, the pool and keeping kids busy
Ask what the children used and ate and what kept them busy, before you change the kids menu or the play area.
- 03Multiple choice
What did your children use?
Lists what the children used, from the pool to a high chair, with several picks allowed. Results shows a bar per option, which tells you which family facilities earn their space.
- 04Dropdown
How were the kids meals?
How the kids meals went, from loved to none at all. Results shows each share and count; a high share for too limited or too expensive points to the kids menu itself.
- 09Text
What kept the children busy here?
An open question for what kept the children busy. These answers show which activities and spaces work, and which ones parents found for themselves outside the hotel.
What would make family stays easier
These turn parents' wishes and packing lists into a plan for family rooms and services.
- 05Multiple choice
What would make family stays easier?
Lets parents pick what would make family stays easier, with several picks allowed. Results shows a bar per option, a ready list when you plan family rooms.
- 10Text
What do you always pack because hotels never have it?
An open question for what parents always pack because hotels never have it. Each answer gets a theme, so the same bottle warmer or night light shows up across families.
- 14Ranking
Rank what you look for in a family hotel
Parents put five things in order, from space in the room to price. Results shows the average place per item, which tells you what to lead with when you promote family stays.
Who came and when they travel next
The family's makeup and the next school vacation let you compare families and time your next offer.
- 02Multiple choice

One pick for who came along, from one child to grandparents and a baby. Select an answer in Results to compare how each kind of family rated the stay.
- 11Number
How old is the youngest child who came with you?
The age of the youngest child who came, from 0 to 18. Results shows the median and the middle half, which tells you whether to plan for babies, young children or teenagers.
- 13Date
