Usertick
Tutorial feedback survey template

Make every tutorial the right level, and plan the next lesson with learners

Four questions at the end of a tutorial: whether learners finished, how difficult it was, what they made with it and what to teach next. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this tutorial feedback survey tells you

A tutorial feedback survey asks learners about a lesson at the point they finish it. This template takes about a minute and a quarter: whether they finished, whether the difficulty was right, what they made with what they learned and what the next lesson should cover.

It is written for a popup at the end of the tutorial page, opened when a learner scrolls down to the last step or, from Pro, with the Finished reading smart trigger. It works for written tutorials, video lessons and how-to guides on your site, and the same template also runs as a link at the end of a lesson email.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as content quality or topics and coverage, with a type and a sentiment, so a broken step stands apart from a request for the next lesson. Results shows the share who finished and the share for each difficulty answer, and selecting Too hard filters the page to those learners.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Yes / No

Did you finish the tutorial?

Why ask it
Finishing is the clearest sign a tutorial works. A yes or no tells you how many learners reached the end before you read their other answers.
What you learn
The share that said yes, compared with the period before. Select No to see how hard those learners found it and what they asked for next.
Make it yours
Add a skip, If No, goes to question 4, so learners who stopped aren't asked what they made.
Question 2 of 4 · Multiple choice

How difficult was it?

Why ask it
Difficulty is the setting a tutorial gets wrong most easily: too easy bores the learners you want to keep, and too hard loses the ones who needed it most.
What you learn
A donut with the share for too easy, about right and too hard, with stacked shares over time as you revise the tutorial.
Make it yours
Read Too hard beside the first question: learners who found it too hard and didn't finish point to the step to rewrite.
Question 3 of 4 · Text · Optional

What did you make with it?

Why ask it
What learners made shows whether the tutorial carries over to real projects, and it gives you examples to feature.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, gives it a theme and a sentiment, and marks it as praise, a question or a bug, so the finished projects and the stuck learners are easy to find.
Make it yours
Ask before you feature a learner's project, and add a File upload question (1 per survey on Free) if you want a picture of it.
Question 4 of 4 · Text · Optional

What should the next lesson cover?

Why ask it
Learners at the end of a lesson know what they want to learn next. The open question gives you a queue of lessons in their words.
What you learn
Every answer with its theme and sentiment, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends, so you see which areas the requests fall under and how that changes.
Make it yours
Keep both open questions optional, so a learner in a hurry still answers the first two.

What the answers show

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Open it at the last step

Set a scroll depth trigger near the end of the page, or from Pro use Finished reading, so learners meet the survey after the final step.

  2. 02

    Read the results by tutorial

The Pages card in the Audience tab shows each tutorial page's share of answers, and selecting a page filters Results to that lesson.

  3. 03

    Show it on every tutorial

Set the show frequency to every visit, so a learner who rated one tutorial is asked again at the end of the next.

  4. 04

    Fix broken steps fast

On every plan, a workflow posts answers marked as bugs to Slack, so an outdated screenshot or a broken step gets fixed the same week.
