Live stream survey template

Plan the next stream around your viewers, from picture quality to the time slot

Four quick questions when a stream ends: how the stream looked and sounded, whether viewers joined the chat, how the host did and when to go live next. Use it as it is or add an open question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this live stream survey tells you

A live stream survey asks viewers about the stream they just watched, before they close the tab. This template takes about half a minute: a rating for stream quality, a yes or no on the chat, a rating for the host and the time slot they want next.

It is written for a popup on the page that carries the stream, opened when the broadcast ends. From Starter, or on 1 survey on Free, your page fires a custom event such as Usertick.trigger("stream_ended") when the stream finishes, and the survey opens for everyone still watching. Without the event, place it inside the page under the player for the replay, or share a link survey made from the same template in the stream's description.

The template has no open question, so every answer is a tap. Results shows the star average for the stream and the host, the share who joined the chat and the share for each time slot, and the Devices card shows the ratings on desktop, tablet and mobile. Add an open question at the end and Usertick reads each written answer as it arrives, with a category, a type and a sentiment.

The 4 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 4 · Stars

How would you rate the stream quality?

Why ask it
Picture and sound are the first things that go wrong on a live stream, and the viewers who stayed to the end can tell you whether they did.
What you learn
The star average, a bar per rating and the share who rated 4 or higher. The Devices card in the Audience tab shows the rating on desktop, tablet and mobile, so a stream that stutters on phones stands out.
Make it yours
Set a custom date range for the day of the stream in Results, so each broadcast gets its own reading.
Question 2 of 4 · Yes / No

Did you take part in the chat?

Why ask it
For some viewers the chat is half of a live stream, and others never open it. A yes or no shows how many took part and splits every other answer by it.
What you learn
The share that said yes. Select Yes or No to compare how chatters and quiet viewers rated the stream and the host.
Make it yours
Rename it for your format, such as the live Q&A or the poll, if that is where viewers take part.
Question 3 of 4 · Stars

How would you rate the host?

Why ask it
A host carries a live show, and a rating of its own keeps a great guest or a weak connection from hiding how the host came across.
What you learn
The star average and a bar per rating, compared with the period before, so you can follow a new host or format over a run of streams.
Make it yours
When two hosts share the show, add a question that names the host, or make one survey per host.
Question 4 of 4 · Multiple choice

When would you like us to go live?

Why ask it
The time slot decides who can watch live at all, and viewers who just watched are the right people to ask when they could come back.
What you learn
A donut with the share and count for each slot, with stacked shares over time as your audience grows. Select Evenings to see how those viewers rated the stream.
Make it yours
Replace the slots with the times your team can staff, and add the time zone to the label if your viewers are spread out.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

How would you rate the stream quality?

The average rating and the share who gave 4 or 5 stars, against the period before.

When would you like us to go live?

The share of each answer with its count. Select an answer to narrow the whole page to those people and read what else they said.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

Fire an event at the end

From Starter, or on 1 survey on Free, call Usertick.trigger when the stream finishes, so the survey opens for viewers still on the page and nobody is asked in the middle of the show.

  2. 02

    Keep it to taps

Viewers leave quickly once a stream ends, so keep the four one-tap questions and add an open question only at the end.

  3. 03

Read each stream on its own

Set the Results date range to the day of the stream to read that broadcast, then widen it to compare streams across a month.

  4. 04

Ask again on the next stream

Set the show frequency to show again after a number of days, such as 7 for a weekly stream, so regular viewers rate each new one.

Frequently asked questions

Right when the broadcast ends, while viewers are still on the page. From Starter, or on 1 survey on Free, a custom event from your page opens it at that moment; on any plan, it can sit inside the page under the player or open after a set time on the page.

The website survey runs on pages of your own domain, so it works where you embed the stream on your site. For viewers on those platforms, put the link of a link survey made from the same template in the stream's description or chat.

Viewers leave quickly when a stream ends, so every question is a single tap and the survey takes about half a minute. Add an open question at the end if you want reasons, and Usertick reads each written answer.

Set the Results date range to the day of each stream, or duplicate the survey for a stream you want to read on its own. Every card also compares the range you pick with the period before.

Open the Devices card to see whether the low ratings come from one kind of device, and check your stream settings for that case before the next broadcast.
