Renovation feedback survey template

See how clients rate the whole renovation, once the dust has settled

Three questions for clients a week after the work is done: a rating grid for timing, budget, quality, tidiness and communication, a recommendation score and what the next client should know. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this renovation feedback survey tells you

A renovation feedback survey asks clients to look back on a project once they are living with the result. This template takes about a minute: a grid that rates finishing on time, staying on budget, quality of work, tidiness and communication, a recommendation score and an open question about what your next client should know.

It is written for an email a week after completion. Because the survey opens with a grid, the email shows a button that opens the survey page. The same template also runs as a link in your final invoice email, as a QR code on the job folder you hand over, or as a popup on your website.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as maintenance and repairs or communication, with a type and an urgency. Results shows a heat map of the five ratings with row averages and the recommendation score against the period before, so you can see whether jobs are running late or over budget more often this season.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Matrix · Optional

How would you rate the project on the following?

Why ask it
Clients judge a renovation on several things at once, and one score would hide which one went wrong. Five rows cover the promises a contractor makes: the date, the budget, the work, the mess and the updates.
What you learn
A heat map per row with row averages, compared with the period before, so a slipping row such as Staying on budget stands out across all your jobs.
Make it yours
Move the recommendation score to the top when you want clients to answer inside the email, since a grid shows a button in the email and a score can be tapped in the message.
Question 2 of 3 · NPS

How likely are you to recommend us to a friend?

Why ask it
Renovation work spreads by word of mouth between neighbors and friends. The recommendation score shows how many clients would send you the next job.
What you learn
The score, promoters minus detractors, with a bar of detractors, passives and promoters and a score line over time.
Make it yours
Read each detractor's grid answers first, which often show the row that cost you the recommendation.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What should our next client know?

Why ask it
Advice for the next client brings out what this client wishes they had known, such as how long the kitchen would be unusable or which choices to make early. It also shows what they valued most about working with you.
What you learn
Each answer with its sentiment and theme, filterable by theme, with up to 8 themes and their trends. Usertick marks each one as praise, a complaint or an idea and flags the urgent ones, such as a leak after the job.
Make it yours
Use the most common advice in your first meeting with new clients, so the next project starts with clearer expectations.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Wait a week after completion

A week of living with the work shows the client what holds up, from a sticking drawer to a perfect tile line. Usertick doesn't send it automatically when a project closes, so schedule the email when you set the handover date, up to 30 days ahead.

  2. 02

    Ask before you quote anyone

Answers to the last question can read like testimonials. Ask the client before you use one on your website, or add a Consent question after it.

  3. 03

    Compare project types

Kitchens, bathrooms and full remodels run differently. Add a question for the project type, then select each answer in Results to compare the grid.

  4. 04

    Handle callbacks fast

Assign every answer that names a problem with the work to the project lead in the inbox, and set the status when the callback is done.

Frequently asked questions

About a week after completion, once the client has lived with the result. A second short survey before the warranty runs out can check how the work held up.

The first question is a grid, and grids open on the survey page. Move the recommendation score to the top if you want clients to answer inside the email with one tap.

Read the written answers from those clients and check whether the extra cost came from change orders or from the estimate. Clear written change orders, signed before the work, keep the final bill from being a surprise.

The person who hired you and dealt with the project, usually the homeowner. When two people shared the decisions, send it to both, since each may have watched a different part of the job.
