Destination guide survey template

Learn which parts of your guides get used, and what is out of date

Three questions for after the trip: how useful the destination guide was, which parts travelers used and what to add or correct. Use it as it is or change any question, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this destination guide survey tells you

A destination guide survey asks travelers whether the guide you gave them was any use once they were there. This template takes under a minute: a usefulness rating, the parts they used, from restaurant tips to safety tips, and an open question about what to add or correct.

It is written for an email after the trip, sent to a list of travelers who received the guide, or as a link and QR code printed on the last page of the guide itself. When the guide lives on your website, the same survey can sit inside the page at the end of each guide. Run one survey per destination, or add a question that names it, since Results doesn't split answers by link tag.

Every written answer is read as it arrives and filed under a category from your list, such as staff and service or booking and reservations, with a type, a sentiment and an urgency. Results shows the share who found the guide useful, bars for each part with typed Other answers listed, and every correction with its theme, so outdated tips show up as a pattern.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Stars

How useful was the destination guide?

Why ask it
A guide earns its place when travelers open it on the trip. A 1 to 5 usefulness rating tells you whether yours does, guide by guide.
What you learn
The average rating, a bar per rating and the share who rated 4 or higher, compared with the period before.
Make it yours
Keep it first. A Stars question sits inside the email, so travelers answer with one tap.
Question 2 of 3 · Multiple choice · Optional

Which parts did you use?

Why ask it
Every section of a guide takes work to keep current, and travelers lean on some more than others. The parts they used show where to spend the next update.
What you learn
Bars with the share and count of each part, with typed Other answers listed beside the chart, and stacked shares over time.
Make it yours
Match the options to your guide's sections, such as markets, beaches or day trips, and read the Other answers for sections you don't have yet.
Question 3 of 3 · Text · Optional

What should we add or correct?

Why ask it
Travelers find what is out of date on the ground: the restaurant that closed, the bus line that changed, the museum with new hours. One open question collects those corrections.
What you learn
Usertick reads each answer as it arrives, files it under a category and a theme from your list, marks it as an idea, a complaint or a question, and flags the urgent ones, such as a safety tip that no longer holds. Results lists every answer with its sentiment and shows up to eight themes with their trends.
Make it yours
On every plan, a workflow can add each correction to a Google Sheet, so your writers work through one list.

What the answers show

Results turns each question into numbers you can follow week by week.

How useful was the destination guide?

The average rating and the share who gave 4 or 5 stars, against the period before.

Which parts did you use?

The share of each answer with its count. Select an answer to narrow the whole page to those people and read what else they said.

Every written answer, read for you

Each answer arrives with its category, theme, type and urgency, so the urgent ones reach your team first.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Run one survey per destination

Duplicate the survey for each guide, or add a first question that names the destination, so each guide gets its own rating and its own corrections.

  2. 02

Put the survey where the guide ends

When the guide is a web page, embed the survey inside the page at its end. On a printed or downloaded guide, print the survey's QR code on the last page.

  3. 03

    Fix safety tips first

Read the corrections flagged as urgent first, since an outdated safety tip or a wrong emergency number matters more than a closed restaurant.

  4. 04

    Check each guide every season

Compare the usefulness rating with the period before each season and after a big update, to see whether the changes helped.
