In-flight Wi-Fi survey template

Learn how your onboard Wi-Fi worked, and what passengers would pay for it

Three questions for passengers who connected: how they rated the Wi-Fi, what they used it for and what they would pay on a flight like theirs. Add an open question when you want details, and Usertick reads every written answer for you.

What this in-flight Wi-Fi survey tells you

An in-flight Wi-Fi survey asks passengers who connected how the service held up and what it is worth to them. This template takes about 35 seconds: a rating for the Wi-Fi, what they used it for, from messaging to streaming and work, and the price they would pay on a similar flight.

It is written for an email after the flight to passengers who connected, sent to a list built from your Wi-Fi sessions or your booking system, or as a link in the post-flight email. The first question sits inside the email. When your Wi-Fi portal runs on your own domain with the Usertick script, the same survey can open there as a popup after a passenger has been online for a while.

Results shows the share who rated the Wi-Fi 4 or 5 stars, bars for each use with typed Other answers listed, and a donut of price answers, each compared with the period before. Choose Streaming to see how the people who need the most bandwidth rated the connection. Add an open question and every written answer is filed under a category from your list, such as room and facilities, with a type and a sentiment.

The 3 questions, one by one

What each question asks, why it is there, what it shows you and what to change.

Question 1 of 3 · Stars

How would you rate the Wi-Fi on your flight?

Why ask it
One rating per flight shows whether the connection held up, and it is the number to compare across routes and providers.
What you learn
The average rating, a bar per star and the share who rated 4 or higher, compared with the period before.
Make it yours
Add a dropdown for the route after it, so Results can show where the connection is weakest.
Question 2 of 3 · Multiple choice · Optional

What did you use it for?

Why ask it
Messaging needs little bandwidth and streaming needs a lot, so the uses tell you whether a low rating comes from the connection or from what passengers expected of it.
What you learn
Bars with the share and count of each use, with typed Other answers listed beside the chart, and stacked shares over time.
Make it yours
Add the uses your passengers mention, such as video calls or gaming, and keep Other for the rest.
Question 3 of 3 · Multiple choice

What would you pay for Wi-Fi on a flight like this?

Why ask it
A price question asked right after the flight, from passengers who used the service, is a direct reading for your pricing and your Wi-Fi packages.
What you learn
A donut with the share and count of each price, compared with the period before. Select Nothing, it should be free to see how those passengers rated the Wi-Fi.
Make it yours
Change the brackets to your currency and price points, and keep a free option so the answers show how many passengers expect it at no charge.

Tips for this survey

Small choices that keep people answering and the answers useful.

  1. 01

    Ask only passengers who connected

Import the passengers who logged in to the Wi-Fi as a list, so the survey reaches people who used it. Passengers who never connected can't rate the connection.

  2. 02

    Name the route

Results doesn't split answers by link tag. Add a question for the route, or run one survey per fleet, to compare where the Wi-Fi works.

  3. 03

    Read price answers by use

Select Work or Streaming in question 2 before you read the price donut, since people who work on board and people who stream may value the service differently.

  4. 04

Add an open question for outages

An optional question about what didn't work gives you the details behind low ratings, such as dropped sessions or a login page that wouldn't load.
