Checkout questions that show which charges surprise your guests
Ask guests about the final bill, the charges they didn't expect and how leaving went. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What hotel checkout survey questions tell you
Hotel checkout survey questions ask about the last hour of a stay: whether the bill was right and clear, which charge came as a surprise, how long checking out took and whether a later checkout was offered. The last impression weighs heavily in how a guest remembers a stay, and a surprise fee on the bill can sour two good nights.
Send these questions within a few hours of checkout or the next morning. Usertick sends email to a contact list now or on a date you schedule, with no automatic send when the guest checks out in your property system, so send in daily batches or put the link in your own receipt email. Pick three or four: whether the bill was correct, the surprise charge, the ease of checkout and the open question about the bill.
Each written answer gets a category, a theme, a sentiment and an urgency, so a disputed charge reaches the front office or accounts before the guest calls their bank. On every plan, with 1 file upload question per survey on Free, a receipt the guest uploads arrives with the answer in the inbox.

The 14 check out and the bill questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
The final bill
Ask whether the bill was right and clear and which line needs explaining, so every disputed charge gets an owner.
- 01Yes / No
Was your bill correct?
A yes or no on whether the bill was correct. Select No in Results to read those guests' open answers about the bill, and give each one an owner before a dispute starts.
- 07Stars
How clear was the final bill?
A star rating for how clear the final bill was. Results shows the average and the share who rated 4 or higher; a low score on a correct bill points to the layout of the bill itself.
- 02Multiple choice
Which charge surprised you?
One pick for the charge that surprised the guest, with an option for none. Results shows a donut with each share; a growing share for one fee means it needs explaining at booking.
- 09Text
Which line on the bill needs explaining?
An open question for the line on the bill that needs explaining. Each answer is typed as a question or a complaint, so accounts can answer one kind and the manager can take the other.
- 14File upload
Upload the receipt you have a question about
A photo or scan of the receipt in question, attached to the answer. It saves a back-and-forth with accounts and shows exactly which line the guest means. File upload is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free.
- 13Contact
Where should we send a copy of your bill?
Collects a name and an email for a copy of the bill. Results lists them in a table; send the copy from your own system, since the survey only collects the address.
Checking out
These show how guests left and how long it took, so you can staff the desk for the morning peak.
- 03Dropdown
How did you check out?
How the guest checked out, from the desk to leaving the key. Guests who haven't checked out yet got the survey too early; leave them out before you read the rest.
- 06Customer effort
How easy was checking out?
A customer effort score for checking out, on a 7-point scale. Results shows the average and the share who found it easy; compare it for each way of checking out.
- 11Ruler
How many minutes did checkout take?
Minutes spent checking out, on a ruler from 0 to 20. Results shows the median and the middle half; a long wait at the morning peak means another person at the desk.
- 12Date
What time did you leave?
Asks when the guest left. As a date question, Results shows a calendar of picked dates and records the day, so switch it to a dropdown of time slots to find the peak hour.
The last hour of the stay
Ask how leaving felt and what would make it easier, from a later checkout to luggage storage.
- 05Yes / No
Were you offered a later checkout?
A yes or no on being offered a later checkout. Read it beside how the guest felt as they left, since an offer of an extra hour can lift the mood even when the guest declines.
- 04Multiple choice
What would make leaving easier?
Lets guests pick what would make leaving easier, with several picks allowed. Results shows a bar per option; a high share for the bill the night before is a cheap fix.
- 08Emoji
How did you feel as you left?
How the guest felt walking out, on a row of faces. It records the last impression of the stay; Results shows each face with its share, compared with the period before.
- 10Text
What would have made your last hour with us better?
An open question about the last hour of the stay. These answers cover what the bill misses: luggage, a taxi, a rushed desk or housekeeping knocking too early.
Tips for asking about check out and the bill
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask within a few hours
Send the survey the same day or the next morning, while the guest still has the bill in their inbox.
- 02
Explain fees before the bill does
When one charge keeps surprising guests, mention it at booking and at check-in, then watch its share fall in Results.
- 03
Answer bill questions first
Give every incorrect bill or line to explain an owner in the inbox, and set its status once the guest has an answer.
- 04
Send after the departure date
Send each batch after the guests have left, so no one is asked about checkout while still in the room.
