Partner questions that show what your funders need from you
Ask funders and partners how the partnership went, from the grant application to the final report. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What funder and partner survey questions tell you
Funder and partner survey questions ask the foundations, companies, agencies and nonprofits you work with how the partnership went: communication, reporting, whether the project delivered and whether they would fund you again. Program officers rarely say what frustrated them until a grant isn't renewed.
Ask once a year, or a few weeks after a final report goes in, while the reporting is fresh. Send five or six questions by email or link to each contact, with a tag on the link for the grant, and keep it short, since these readers fill out many forms.
Each written answer is read as it arrives and given a category, a theme and a sentiment, so praise for your reporting and a concern about delays sit in separate themes. Give each concern an owner in the inbox, and post new answers to your team's Slack channel.

The 13 partners and grants questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
How the partnership went
Start with the grid and the recommend score, then the facts behind them, split by the kind of partner who answered.
- 01Matrix
Rate our partnership on each
Rates communication, reliability, impact and reporting in one grid. The heat map shows which part pulls the partnership down, and row averages let you compare funders with other partners.
- 02NPS
How likely are you to recommend partnering with us?
Asks how likely the partner is to recommend partnering with you. Results shows the score with detractors, passives and promoters. A detractor among your largest funders deserves a call.
- 04Yes / No
Did the project deliver what was agreed?
A plain yes or no on whether the project delivered what was agreed. Select No in Results to filter the page to those partners and read what else they said.
- 06Big scale
How well do our missions align?
How well the partner's mission and yours fit, from 1 to 10. A low score from a funder is a reason to rethink the next proposal before you write it.
- 11Dropdown
What type of partner are you?
The kind of partner answering, from funder to community group. Use it to split every other answer, and add logic to skip questions that don't apply to that kind of partner.
Reports and the grant process
These questions show how much work a grant asks of each side, from the application to the report, so you can cut the steps nobody needs.
- 03Stars
How clear was our grant report?
A star rating for the clarity of your grant report. Results shows the average and the share who rated it 4 or higher. Read it with what partners want more of.
- 09Customer effort
How easy was the grant application process?
A customer effort score for the application process. It fits partners who apply to you for funding, such as community groups you pass grants to, so use logic to skip it for funders.
- 10Ruler
How many weeks did the reporting take you?
How many weeks the reporting took the partner, on a ruler. Results shows the median and the middle half, a fair check on whether the report you ask for is worth its cost in time.
- 13File upload
Upload your latest grant report
Collects a partner's latest grant report as a file, for partners you fund in turn. Results shows each file in a gallery. File upload is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free.
Funding the next round
Ask about the next grant and what would make it easier to say yes, and read these answers before any renewal conversation.
- 08Yes / No
Would you fund us again?
A plain yes or no on funding you again. Read every No with that partner's other answers, and give the relationship an owner in the inbox before the next funding round.
- 07Multiple choice
What would you like more of?
Lets partners pick what they want more of, from data to site visits. Results shows bars per option. Keep Nothing in the list, so a satisfied funder isn't pushed into a wish.
- 12Text
What did we do best this year?
An open question on what you did best this year. Each answer arrives with its sentiment and theme, and the words can strengthen your next proposal, with the partner's permission.
- 05Text
What would make the partnership stronger?
An open question on what would make the partnership stronger. Each answer arrives with its theme, so requests for more contact or lighter reporting collect in one place.
Tips for asking about partners and grants
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Time it after the report
Send the survey a few weeks after the final report, while both the reporting and the results are fresh.
- 02
Keep it short for funders
Pick five or six questions. A program officer fills out many forms, and a short one gets answered.
- 03
Tag each grant
Use one link per grant or partner with a tag on it, so each answer carries the grant and you can compare one year with the next.
- 04
Follow up in person
Answer every low score or No with a call from the person who manages the relationship, before the next funding round opens.
Add these questions to a survey
From the library to the first answers.
- 1
Open the library
In the Usertick survey editor, choose From library, filter by industry and topic, and add several questions at once.
- 2

Paste questions reads up to 10 questions from any text on Free, 100 on Starter and 200 on Pro and above, keeps your wording and picks an answer type for each.
- 3
Choose where it runs
Show the survey on your website, send it by email, share its link and QR code, or switch it to a conversation.
- 4
Read the answers
Results counts every score and choice, and Usertick reads each written answer and files it by topic, on every plan.
