Seller questions that show why homeowners pick your agency
Ask sellers how the sale went, from the valuation and listing photos to the final price. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What home seller survey questions tell you
Home seller survey questions ask homeowners how the sale went from their side: the valuation, the photos and listing, the showings and the negotiation, and how the final price compared with what they asked. A seller who felt kept in the dark rarely says so to the agent, and the next homeowner on the street will ask them who to call.
Ask within a week or two of the sale closing, by email or with a link. Pick five or six questions: the agent rating, the grid, the price question, the showing feedback question and one open question. The question about the date the seller needs to move fits better at listing time.
Each written answer gets a category, a theme and a sentiment, and each response an urgency. Select Well below on the price question in Results to filter the page to those sellers and read what they rated lowest.

The 14 selling a home questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
How the agent did
Rate the agent and each part of the sale, and ask why the seller chose you, so you know what to keep and what to coach.
- 01Stars
How would you rate the agent who sold your home?
A star rating for the agent who sold the home. Put it first, and compare the share who rated 4 or higher across agents and offices.
- 04Matrix
Rate each part of selling
Rates the valuation, the listing, the showings and the negotiation in one grid. The heat map shows which part of the sale disappointed sellers most.
- 06Yes / No
Did the agent tell you what buyers said after showings?
Asks whether the agent passed on what buyers said. A No here is one of the clearest signs a seller felt kept in the dark, whatever the final price.
- 12Text
What made you choose this agent over the others?
An open question about why the seller chose your agency. Read the answers before you write your next valuation pitch, since they say what homeowners value in their own words.
How the sale went
These put numbers on the sale: weeks on the market, showings before an offer, the price against asking and how well the photos sold the home.
- 02Ruler
How many weeks was your home on the market?
Weeks on the market, on a ruler up to a year. Results shows the median and the middle half; read it with the price question to see whether long listings sold below asking.
- 03Multiple choice
How did the final sale price compare with the asking price?
How the final price compared with asking, from well above to well below. Results shows a donut with each share, and selecting an answer filters every other question to those sellers.
- 07Number
How many showings did you have before an offer?
How many showings came before an offer. Results shows the median and the middle half, and a high count next to a low photo score points at the listing.
- 09Big scale
How well did the listing photos show your home?
How well the listing photos showed the home, from 1 to 10. A low average is a reason to review your photographer before the next listing goes live.
Getting the home ready
Ask what sellers did before listing and how hard showings were to live with, so your advice matches what sellers can manage.
- 08Multiple choice
What did you do to the home before listing it?
Shows what sellers did before listing, from painting to a full renovation. Compare weeks on the market for sellers who staged the home with those who did nothing.
- 11Customer effort
How easy was it to keep the home ready for showings?
A customer effort score for keeping the home ready for showings. A low score with many showings tells you to group visits into fewer, longer slots.
Who your sellers are
Reasons for selling, competing valuations and the move date describe your sellers, and the open question tells you what to change.
- 10Multiple choice
Why are you selling?
Why the seller moved, from work to a change in circumstances. Results shows the share of each, which helps you aim valuation offers at the right homeowners.
- 13Dropdown
How many agents did you get valuations from?
How many agents valued the home. Results shows the share for each answer, so you know how often you compete and how often you are the only agent asked.
- 14Date
When do you need to be out of the property?
Lets the seller pick the date they need to leave on a calendar. Ask it early in the sale, when it still shapes the timing of the listing and the offers you accept.
- 05Text
What would you do differently if you sold again?
An open question about what the seller would change next time. Each answer gets a theme, so points that repeat, such as the asking price or the timing, stand out.
Tips for asking about selling a home
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask once the sale closes
Send the survey within two weeks of closing, when the seller knows the final price and still remembers each showing.
- 02
Include the sales that went badly
Survey sellers whose homes sold below asking or took months to sell. Their answers show what to change.
- 03
Pass on buyer feedback
When many sellers say No to the showing feedback question, send each seller a short summary after every showing and watch the share change.
- 04
Use the answers in your pitch
The reasons sellers give for choosing you are the points to lead with when you value the next home.
