Awards night survey questions

Awards night questions that show how the evening felt to the room

Ask nominees, guests and sponsors how the ceremony, the judging and the dinner went. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.

What awards night survey questions tell you

Awards night survey questions ask the people in the room how the evening went: the length of the ceremony, how fair the judging felt, whether it was clear how winners were chosen and what they enjoyed most. An awards program depends on entries, and nominees who found the judging unclear may not enter again.

Ask the morning after the ceremony, by email to your guest list, or show a QR code on the tables as dessert is served. Pick five or six: the rating, the ceremony length, the judging questions, what guests enjoyed and one open question. Read the answers by role, since a nominee who didn't win and a sponsor see the evening differently.

Each written answer is given a theme and a sentiment as it arrives, so suggestions for new categories sit apart from comments about the dinner. Select a role in Results, such as As a nominee, and the whole page shows how the judging looked to the people who entered.

The 14 awards night questions, with when to ask each

Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.

How the night went

Start with the score and the feeling, then the parts of the evening guests enjoyed and the format and timing they would choose.

  1. 01Stars

How would you rate the awards night?

One star rating for the whole evening. Results shows the average and the share who rated it 4 or higher; select a role to compare nominees, guests and sponsors.

  2. 11Emoji

How did the awards night feel?

A row of faces for how the evening felt. Results shows each face's share, a quick read to put next to the star rating.

  3. 02Multiple choice

How long did the ceremony feel?

A quick read on the ceremony length. Many Too long answers can point to the speeches, so read what guests enjoyed most to see what to keep.

  4. 05Multiple choice

What did you enjoy most about the night?

Guests pick everything they enjoyed. Results shows a bar for each, so you can see whether the dinner or the music deserves more of next year's budget.

  5. 08This or that

For an awards night you prefer

Two pairs on format: dinner or reception, a short ceremony or a full evening. Results shows a split bar per pair, which helps before you book the venue.

  6. 13Date

What time should the ceremony start?

Asks guests when the ceremony should start. As a date question, Results shows a calendar of picked dates; to compare start times, change its answer type to multiple choice with a few times.

The judging and the entries

These show whether the awards felt fair and worth entering, the answers that decide next year's entries.

  1. 03Yes / No

Was it clear how the winners were chosen?

A yes or no on how winners were chosen. A share of No among nominees is a reason to publish the criteria and the judges before next year's entries open.

  2. 04Big scale

How fair did the judging feel?

A ten point score for fairness. Select As a nominee in the role question to see how the people who entered judged it, the view that decides whether they enter again.

  3. 07Customer effort

How easy was it to enter the awards?

A customer effort score for entering the awards. Put the role question first and add logic to skip this one for guests who didn't enter; Results shows the share who found it easy.

  4. 06Text

    Which award category is missing?

Asks which category is missing. Filter the answers by theme to find categories several guests ask for, and consider them for next year's entry form.

  5. 14Text

Who deserves a mention that we missed?

Asks who deserves a mention. The answers name people and teams the program missed, which feed next year's nominations and the thank you note after the event.

Who was in the room

Ask how each guest attended and why, so you can read every other answer by role.

  1. 12Dropdown

    How did you attend?

How each guest attended, from nominee to press. Put it first; selecting a role in Results filters the whole page, so every other answer can be read by role.

  2. 09Number

How many people from your team came?

How many people came from each guest's team, from zero to fifty. Results shows the median and the middle half, which helps you plan table sizes and group tickets.

  3. 10Ranking

Rank what makes an awards night worth attending

Guests put five reasons in order. Results shows the average place per item, so you know whether recognition or the guest list sells the tickets.

  1. 01

    Ask the morning after
