Booking questions that show why travelers leave before they pay
Ask travelers about search, filters, prices and checkout on your site. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.
What booking site survey questions tell you
Booking site survey questions ask travelers how searching and paying felt: how easy it was to book, which filters they use, whether they trust the prices and whether the final total matched the first price shown. Your traffic data shows where people drop off, and these answers say why, in the traveler's own words.
Ask right after a booking with a popup on the confirmation page, or catch people about to leave with an exit intent popup on search results. Keep it to three to five questions on the site, and target by device so phone bookers get the questions about the small screen.
Written answers get a category, a theme and a type such as bug or complaint, so a broken filter reaches the product team and a fee complaint reaches pricing. On every plan, a workflow can post bugs to Slack or send them to Jira or Linear.

The 14 booking sites questions, with when to ask each
Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.
How booking felt
Start with effort and mood, then the grid and the open question show which step of the site caused them.
- 01Customer effort
How easy was it to book?
A customer effort score for the booking, on seven points. Ask it on the confirmation page; Results shows the average and the share who found it easy, compared with the period before a site change.
- 12Emoji
How did booking feel?
Five faces for how booking felt. Results shows each face's share, and the mood can catch frustration with a slow page that the effort score misses.
- 02Matrix
Rate each part of the site
Rates search, filters, the prices shown and checkout in one grid. The heat map shows the weakest step, and the row averages give each part of the site its own number to track.
- 08Text
What was hard to find?
An open question on what was hard to find, from the cancellation policy to the room size. Each answer gets a theme, so repeated mentions point to the page that needs work.
Prices and trust
Ask about price trust and surprises together, so a total that grew at checkout comes with the reason and a screenshot (1 per survey on Free).
- 03Big scale
How much do you trust the prices you see?
Trust in your prices, from 1 to 10. Results shows the average and a column per step; read it with the final price question to see whether surprises at checkout pull trust down.
- 04Yes / No
Did the final price match the first price shown?
A yes or no on whether the total stayed the same from search to payment. Select No in Results to see those travelers' other answers, and add logic to show the screenshot question after it.
- 05Multiple choice
What made you hesitate?
The one thing that made the traveler pause, with Nothing for a clean booking. The donut in Results shows whether fees, cancellation terms or the site itself cause the most hesitation.
- 13Screenshot
Show us the price or listing that looked wrong
A screenshot of the listing or price that looked wrong, attached to the answer and shown in the Results gallery. It saves support from guessing which page the traveler saw. Screenshot is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free.
How travelers shop
Device, filters, comparison habits and budget tell you who books on your site and how they decide.
- 06Dropdown
Which device did you book on?
The device used to book. Select Phone in Results to see whether the effort score and the checkout row drop on small screens, or target the survey by device and skip the question.
- 07Multiple choice
Which filters do you always use?
Every filter the traveler always uses. The bars in Results show which filters deserve a place at the top of the search page and which can move into a menu.
- 09Yes / No
Did you compare on another site first?
A yes or no on comparing on another site first. Select Yes and read those travelers' price trust scores, since shoppers who compare judge your prices against a rival's.
- 11Number
How many sites did you check before booking?
How many sites the traveler checked, from 0 to 20. Results shows the median and the middle half; a high median means travelers shop around before they trust one site.
- 10This or that
When booking, what matters more to you?
Two pairs: price or flexibility, reviews or photos. The split bar per pair shows what to put first on a listing and how to sort search results by default.
- 14Slider
What is your nightly budget for this trip?
The nightly budget, from 50 to 600 in your currency. Results shows the median and the middle half, which tells you which price band to show first for this destination.
Tips for asking about booking sites
Small choices that get honest, useful answers.
- 01
Ask on the confirmation page
Show the survey after payment goes through, with a short delay, so it never gets in the way of a booking.
- 02
Catch the ones who leave
Use exit intent on search results and checkout to ask a single question on what made the traveler hesitate.
- 03
Ask phone users separately
Target one version of the survey to phones and ask about the small screen, since checkout on a phone has problems of its own.
- 04
Send bugs to the product team
Route answers typed as bugs to the team that owns the site, through a Slack, Jira or Linear workflow on every plan.
