Rooms and housekeeping survey questions

Room questions that show what housekeeping missed

Ask guests how clean the room was, how they slept and what was missing or broken. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.

What room and housekeeping survey questions tell you

Hotel room and housekeeping survey questions ask guests about the space they spend most of the stay in: how clean it was, how they slept, what was missing or broken and how fast housekeeping answered a request. Many guests put up with a dripping tap or a missing towel without calling down, and mention it only in a review after they leave.

Ask on the second morning of a longer stay, when there is still time to fix things, or the day after checkout for everyone. A QR code on the desk or the bedside card opens a short survey on the guest's phone. Pick three or four: the cleanliness rating, one comfort question, whether everything worked and the open question for what housekeeping missed.

Each written answer is read as it arrives and gets a category, a theme, a sentiment and an urgency, so a broken air conditioner reaches maintenance in the inbox while the guest is still in the room. On every plan, workflows can post those answers to a housekeeping channel in Slack or Microsoft Teams.

The 14 rooms and housekeeping questions, with when to ask each

Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.

How clean the room was

The cleanliness score, what housekeeping missed and a photo of the problem, so each miss reaches the right floor.

  1. 01Stars

    How clean was your room?

The headline cleanliness score on five stars. Results shows the average and the share who rated 4 or higher; add a tag for the floor to the QR code's link to follow each floor in Google Sheets.

  2. 05Text

    What did housekeeping miss?

An open question for what housekeeping missed, from dust under the bed to a bin left full. Each answer gets a theme, so the same miss on the same floor stands out.

  3. 13File upload

Share a photo of the problem in your room

A photo of the problem, attached to the answer. It shows maintenance exactly what to fix before they knock on the door. File upload is on every plan, 1 per survey on Free.

Sleep and comfort in the room

Ask how the guest slept and how the bed, the noise and the temperature rated, then compare room types in Results.

  1. 08Big scale

    How well did you sleep?

How well the guest slept, from 1 to 10. Read it beside the bed and noise rows of the grid to see whether the mattress or the corridor keeps guests awake.

  2. 11Yes / No

Was the room as quiet as you needed?

A yes or no on quiet. Choose No in Results and read the open answers for the cause, from an elevator shaft to a neighbor's TV to traffic outside.

  3. 02Matrix

Rate each part of the room

Rates the bed, the bathroom, noise and temperature on one grid. The heat map shows which row pulls comfort down, so a noisy wing or a weak shower shows up across many stays.

  4. 14Matrix

    Rate your room

A second grid with the bed, cleanliness, noise and temperature. Use it in place of the first grid, since asking both in one survey repeats three of the rows.

  5. 12Emoji

    How did the room feel?

How the room felt overall, on a row of faces. It picks up light, smell and space, which the cleanliness rating alone misses.

  6. 10Dropdown

Which room type did you stay in?

Which room type the guest stayed in. Select a type in Results to see its cleanliness and sleep scores, so a suite and a standard room are judged on their own.

What worked and what was missing

Two quick checks that turn into a maintenance list and a shopping list for the rooms.

  1. 03Yes / No

Was everything in the room working?

A yes or no on whether everything worked. Select No in Results to read those guests' open answers, which tend to name the broken lamp, TV or tap.

  2. 04Multiple choice

What was missing from the room?

Names what was missing from the room in one tap. It allows one answer only, so a guest short of towels and toiletries picks just one; allow several answers if you want the full list.

Housekeeping requests and timing

Ask whether guests needed housekeeping, how long it took and when they want the room serviced.

  1. 06Yes / No

Did you ask for anything from housekeeping?

Splits guests who asked housekeeping for something from those who didn't. Add logic so only guests who answer Yes see the question about how long the request took.

  2. 07Ruler

How long did a housekeeping request take?

How long a housekeeping request took, in minutes from 0 to 60. Results shows the median and the middle half; compare it with the time the front desk promises.

  3. 09This or that

    You prefer housekeeping

Two choices: daily cleaning or cleaning on request, and morning or afternoon visits. Results shows a split bar per pair, useful before you change the default service.

Tips for asking about rooms and housekeeping

Small choices that get honest, useful answers.

  1. 01

Ask while there is time to fix it

On a stay of three nights or more, ask on the second morning. A problem reported then can be fixed before the guest leaves.

  2. 02

Put the QR code in the room

A card on the desk or by the bed reaches the guest when they notice the problem. Add a tag for the room or the floor to the link.

  3. 03

    Route problems to maintenance

Give every broken item an owner in the inbox, or send those answers to the housekeeping channel in Slack or Microsoft Teams.

  4. 04

    Keep one comfort grid

Pick one of the two room grids and keep it the same every month, so the heat map compares like with like.

Add these questions to a survey

From the library to the first answers.

  1. 1

    Open the library

In the Usertick survey editor, choose From library, filter by industry and topic, and add several questions at once.

  2. 2

    Or paste your own list

Paste questions reads up to 10 questions from any text on Free, 100 on Starter and 200 on Pro and above, keeps your wording and picks an answer type for each.

  3. 3

    Choose where it runs

Show the survey on your website, send it by email, share its link and QR code, or switch it to a conversation.

  4. 4

    Read the answers

Results counts every score and choice, and Usertick reads each written answer and files it by topic, on every plan.
