Group trips survey questions

Group trip questions that show what made planning hard and what kept everyone happy

Ask group travelers about booking together, splitting costs, rooms, meals and time to themselves. Each question below comes with when to ask it and what the answer tells you.

What group travel survey questions tell you

Group travel survey questions ask travelers how booking for many people went: who organized it, whether everyone could pay their own share, how the group rate worked and where the group rubbed against each other. The organizer carries most of the work, and these answers show what to make easier for them and how the trip felt to everyone else.

Ask within a few days of the trip. Send the organizer a fuller survey by email, and give them a short link to post in the group chat for everyone else. Pick four to six questions per survey, and tag each link with the group's booking so every answer keeps it.

Written answers get a theme and a sentiment, so planning pain points such as room lists or payment splits add up across groups. The inbox gives each response an owner and a status, and workflows can pass answers to HubSpot.

The 14 group trips questions, with when to ask each

Grouped by what they tell you. Use them as they are or change the wording.

The group and its organizer

Size, the organizer and how the group kept in touch frame every other answer.

  1. 01Number

How many people were in your group?

Group size, from 2 to 60. Results shows the median and the middle half; read booking and room answers with it, since what works for six people may fail for forty.

  2. 02Multiple choice

    Who put the trip together?

Who organized the trip, from the traveler to a club or team. Select an answer in Results to compare booking effort for groups that used an agent with those that did it alone.

  3. 11Dropdown

How did you keep in touch during the trip?

How the group kept in touch, from a group chat to a printed schedule. The donut shows where to send updates and the survey link next time.

Booking and paying

Booking for everyone, splitting costs, the group rate and planning ideas show what to make easier for organizers.

  1. 03Customer effort

How easy was it to book for everyone at once?

A customer effort score for booking for everyone at once, on seven points. A low share who found it easy points to name lists, room assignment or payment steps.

  2. 04Yes / No

Could everyone pay their own share?

A yes or no on everyone paying their own share. Select No in Results to see whether those groups also ranked money higher as a source of friction.

  3. 07Stars

How well did the group rate work for you?

A star rating for the group rate. Results shows the average and a bar per rating; put it in the organizer's survey, since other members may not know the rate.

  4. 06Text

What would have made planning the group trip easier?

An open question on what would have made planning easier. Each answer gets a theme and a type, so ideas for split payments or shared itineraries sort themselves.

How the trip worked for everyone

Fit, the grid, friction and personal time show whether the trip suited the whole group.

  1. 08Big scale

How well did the trip suit everyone in the group?

How well the trip suited the whole group, from 1 to 10. Results shows the average and a column per step, a fair single score for group packages.

  2. 09Matrix

Rate how well each part worked for a group

Rates booking, rooms, meals and transport for a group. The heat map shows which part breaks down when many people travel together.

  3. 05Ranking

Rank what caused the most friction in the group

Travelers rank what caused friction, from money to energy levels. Results shows the average place per item, and the top items are what your packages and booking tools can ease.

  4. 10Multiple choice

How much time did you have to yourself?

Time to themselves, from far too little to more than needed. The donut shows whether group itineraries leave enough free time.

Next time

Whether travelers would go again, the format they prefer and their tips for the next group.

  1. 12Yes / No

Would you travel with this group again?

A yes or no on traveling with this group again. Select No to read what those travelers said about friction and time to themselves.

  2. 13This or that

For a group trip you prefer

Two pairs: everything booked or loose plans, shared rooms or a room of your own. The split bars show which formats to offer for groups.

  3. 14Text

What is your best tip for keeping a group happy on a trip?

An open question for tips on keeping a group happy. The best answers make good advice for organizers on your group booking pages.

Tips for asking about group trips

Small choices that get honest, useful answers.

  1. 01

    Survey the organizer separately

The organizer knows the booking and the rate. Send them the booking questions, and keep the members' survey to the trip itself.

  2. 02

Post the link in the group chat

Give the organizer the members' survey link to post where the group already talks.

  3. 03

    Tag each group

Tag the link with the group's booking, so every answer keeps it for workflows and Google Sheets.

  4. 04

    Fix payment splits first

When groups say they couldn't each pay their own share, look at your payment step before anything else.
